An excellent opportunity has arisen to join a world leading global organisation. Our client Unilever is currently looking for a Technical Operator (Manufacturing) based at Unilever's prestigious facility in Purfleet, Essex. This is a temporary role for a period of 12 months, working a full-time, rotating 12 hour shift pattern over days and nights (may include weekends), paying £36,422 per annum, pro rata (inclusive of £7,013pa shift uplift).
The Technical Operator is required to Operate, Maintain, Improve and Repair equipment within the factory. She/he will support the delivery of operational KPIs. Working within an autonomous team the Technical Operator will drive excellent standards of production delivery and continuous improvement, whilst always protecting a safe and sustainable environment.

Key Skills and Responsibilities:
*Technical - Knowledge and application of technical skills to Operate, Maintain, Improve and Repair (OMIR) equipment. This allows production targets to be met safely, at the right level of quality and on time.
*Understand the principles of mechanism and motion and be able to conduct changeovers, basic repairs and adjustments (eg Cams, slides, bearings, belts and pulleys).
*Utilise appropriate lubrication regimes.
*Understanding of principles and application of pneumatics in the sourcing unit, able to conduct fault finding and basic repair.
*Conduct basic electrical tasks within the factory
*Utilise appropriate safety and environmental procedures to ensure a safe working environment for the whole team.
*Reduce costs due to waste and minimise impact to health, safety and the environment through working to eliminate waste and through the correct management of waste and hazardous materials.
*Ensure that all aspects of Quality within the area of responsibility are in accordance with local Quality procedures
*Promote the development of a highly effective and autonomous team through strong communication, leading by example and conflict management, whilst keeping focused on goals and targets.
*Champion specific skills within the autonomous team and coach them to others in order to drive excellence.
*Continuous Improvement - use performance measures to identify and prioritise losses in production area.
*Agree production plan targets and review performance in order to drive functional goals at individual and team level.
*Administration - Collaborate with colleagues to arrange shift and break cover, induct new employees and address performance shortfalls to ensure that team resources can meet operational requirements.

Other Requirements:
*Must be flexible within pattern of shift work to accommodate factory shutdowns, training courses etc.
*Despite being dedicated to a Cell you may be expected to work in other areas of the factory (e.g. Re-pack and Tubs and Lids) depending on business needs.

Experience Required:
ESSENTIAL:
*Core Engineering Skills - Background in Maintenance, Bench fitting and/or Machining
*Experience of working as part of an extended team within the manufacturing sector
*Strong leadership and communication skills
*Basic understanding of key cost drivers in the factory and will grow this in line with her/his wider project management skills.
*School leaver qualifications in English and Mathematics. This will support report writing, data analysis, leadership and communication skills amongst others.

PREFERRED / DESIRABLE:
*Experience of manufacturing in a Fast Moving Consumer Goods Company
*Experience as a team member within a project Management team with an awareness of project management tools and techniques
