An exciting opportunity has arisen to join a world leading global organisation. Our client, a blue chip FMCG company, is currently seeking a Technical Skills Trainer based onsite in Burton upon Trent, West Midlands. This is a full-time, permanent role, 39 Hours a week Monday to Friday to start 1st April 2019, paying a salary of £31270 plus flexibility allowance.

Job Summary

The Technical Skills Trainer leads all technical training interventions for the sourcing unit and is necessarily an experienced mechanical and electrical technician with an excellent ability to Teach, Coach and Mentor.

The skills trainer will coordinate and deliver course training for Entry level and Developing technical operators, and technician apprentices in accordance with Unilever curriculum requirements. They will liaise with other training providers where it is advantageous to use their capabilities.

Additionally the skills trainer will provide advice and measuring for the recruitment of technical skills to the sourcing unit. The skills trainer is responsible for the proper maintenance and safe running of on-site training facilities and materials.

Job Skills

  • Technical - Able to Teach, Coach and Mentor a minimum of mechanical and electrical engineering skills. An inspirational teaching approach is a guiding requirement for the role. See Technician Curriculum for full technical requirements and skill levels.
  • Mechanical areas of expertise include:
  • Mechanisms and motion and Condition Based Monitoring.
  • Materials and tribology.
  • Process Engineering (eg Pumps, Valves, Pipe-Work, Vessels, Agitators etc).
  • Electrical areas of expertise include:
  • Electrical control circuits.
  • Hazardous Area Equipment and Hazards Specific to Operation.
  • Remove and replace major electrical components (such as motors, switch/control gear).

Professional Qualifications Required for this role:

  • A minimum of 2 of 3 engineering disciplines at a national apprenticeship level; mechanical, electrical or control and automation.
  • National Teach, Coach, Mentor qualification (certificates often require a period of teaching, study and practical assessments).
  • School leaver qualifications in Reading and Comprehension, Writing and Mathematics.

The candidate must have:

  • Core Engineering Skills - A minimum of 6 years manufacturing experience using 2 of the 3 engineering disciplines required by the role; mechanical, electrical or control and automation.
  • Strong coaching and communication skills supporting some instructional experience in a previous role. Must display an ability to engage and enthuse.
  • Proven analytical skills.

The candidate would preferably have:

  • Control and automation qualifications.
  • Experience of manufacturing in a Fast Moving Consumer Goods Company.
  • Experience as a team member within a project Management team; awareness of project management tools/techniques.
