Main Purpose of JOB

The Rota Meter Reader job involves reading and inspecting meters, enabling accurate bill production to the customer. With a clear focus on customer delivery, positively represent the company image and brand, delivering against the governance required for the role.

Key Accountabilities


  • Performance

  • Carry out a programme of meter readings and visual inspections, striving to obtain maximum access rates to domestic and non-domestic premises. Generate reports through HHT of site anomalies using the standard site specific codes.

    Using available technologies, view, retrieve and update customer records to support the completion of daily work and output targets, and actively ensure that all data collected is accurate.

    Check for irregularities on energy meters (including energy theft), reporting and taking appropriate action.


  • Training & Authorisation

  • Undertake ongoing refresher training by attending technical and procedural update forums. Adopting and applying new working practices to enhance safety, customer service and efficiency on the job.


  • Quality & Audit

  • Ensure that the programme targets are delivered maintaining a high quality delivery in terms of customer service, safety and value for money. Deal positively with customer complaints following Company procedure, quickly resolving these in the most cost-effective way whilst also ensuring that high levels of customer satisfaction are maintained.

    Based on our Company procedures and requirements we must ensure the integrity of customer data including Password Schemes

    4 Innovation & Improvement

    Actively take part in discussions which generate ideas to improve working practices. Log all innovative ideas and follow up feedback. Cascade feedback received from customers to enable the business to review/amend its processes in order to meet customer demands and expectations.

  • Ensure that the highest safety standards are met and that we follow the vulnerable customers guidelines at all times.


  • 6. Project Management

  • Undertake specific projects as directed by the Field Team Manager.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    The Rota Meter Reader operates in a field-based environment and applies self-governance techniques and practices day to day. They will live and breathe the Company core values, strive to exceed standards and targets, and work both flexibly and smartly to deliver a first class customer service.

    The Rota Meter Reader will operate from home/depot and be equipped with a branded van, hand-held terminal, mobile phone, tools, uniform and customer communication postcards. Personal pride and care will always be taken with equipment and customer data ensuring its safe use and storage at all times.

    Business Knowledge

    • Customer Charter and business objectives
    • Utility sector knowledge and governance requirements, including Data Protection and licence obligations
    • Strong understanding of safety culture


    Essential Functional / Technical Skills

    • Ability to read, record and inspect meters
    • Full driving licence
    • Communication skills - being able to interact with customers
    • PC skills
    • Electrical awareness
