ROLE: Student Research (School of Law)

INSTITUTION: Birmingham City University

PROJECT: Tracking Research Impact.

DATES: May - July, 2019.

HOURS: (up to 50 hours)

PAY: £8.21/hour

THE PROJECT AND STUDENT

The Research Excellence Framework (REF) is an exercise undertaken by four UK higher education funding bodies every 4-8 years. The purpose of the REF is to "secure the continuation of a world-class, dynamic and responsive research base across the full academic spectrum within UK higher education." To take part in the REF, higher education institutions make submissions under Units of Assessment (UoA) (e.g., law, history, physics, sociology etc.), in which they have expertise. For REF2021, there are 34 different Units of Assessment, and Law is Unit of Assessment 18 (UoA18). The School of Law at BCU plans to make a 'REF Submission' under UoA18. Our submission will be scored in relation to the quality of our outputs (items of research we publish), impact (how our research makes an impact in and beyond academia); and environment (how our academic community supports the sustainability and delivery of research).

Students play a very important role in helping us to shape our REF Submission. For example, students may be involved as research assistants on projects that lead to outputs, or attend our Research Seminar Series, which fosters our environment. This Student Researcher role will involve selected students to collaborate with us in identifying the 'impact' of our research through tracking citations and references to research outputs, cataloguing that information, and drafting summary reports.

Training and support will be provided.

How to apply: Please submit a CV and Cover Letter. Your Cover Letter should evidence how you satisfy the job description and key skills requirements for the researcher role.
