A fantastic senior opportunity is available to work within a global organisation that has a leading position in its industry.

As a Senior Category Manager within Purchasing you will work within a team that spend over £200M on energy and utilities for the business annually

You must have 3-5 years industry relevant experience in the sourcing & negotiation of high value, long term contracts for the supply of fuels, direct materials and energy related commodities.

You should have a high standard of demonstrable current knowledge for both the UK & European supply markets.

In particular, you should have solid experience in the securing of supply contracts for alternative fuels for kilns, Bitumen for manufacture, primary fuels such as Coal and significant understanding of Gas & Electricity markets.

With strong stakeholder engagement skills you should be familiar with identifying and quantifying opportunities related to such matters, having had first-hand experience in presenting such findings to Executive Management.

You will form part of the senior management function and will present to an international board on a monthly basis. Some international travel may be required in this role as well as extensive UK travel.

Ideally you will have strong knowledge of the heavy building materials manufacturing industry with an understanding of production techniques.

You will also be familiar with the requirements of permits and the necessity to comply with stringent material specifications to comply with such permits.

The post holder will be required to establish the forward strategy for the use of such materials in all relevant business lines together with making sure that it is done so in conjunction with Group wide initiatives.

You will have regular dialogue with Plant based Operational staff and as such you will have a collaborative personality and the skills to listen, understand, take action and support the business needs at all times.

Ultimately you will be responsible for developing the business case to secure robust contracts for the supply of categories of spend under your remit and to negotiate the best terms of purchase.

University or college degree in business administration or engineering
Graduate Diploma of Supply Chain Management (MCIPS - membership of the chartered institute of purchasing and supply)
Knowledge of cement, aggregates, RMC and Asphalt business
Cross-functional understanding
Understanding of contractual law and how it is applied in purchasing contracts
Manage subordinates' performance
Build and retain talent and develop people
