Proven media relations experience

Ability to work deadlines and to prioritise work under pressure

Ability to work flexibly within multi- disciplinary teams, including outside core hours

Ability to research and produce briefings and materials for the media

Experience of providing content for both internal and external audiences

Clear understanding of the importance of branding and maintaining reputation

Strong story-telling skills

Proven ability to produce high quality cross-platform content
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to draft media strategies and plans
Strong diplomacy skills
Be prepared to travel to attend meetings within service centre region to attend meetings, events and briefings. Some meetings may be during evenings or weekends
The person MUST be in empathy with the mission and values of The Salvation Army and have a willingness to promote that mission

Promoting the work of The Salvation Army in traditional, digital and social media, and helping to maintain and build our reputation with internal stakeholders and external media

1) Promoting the work and managing the reputation of The SA through external media (traditional, digital and social media) and building strong contacts with local, regional and national media to achieve coverage

2) Producing engaging and informative multi-platform content for external and internal stakeholders to develop our profile on all channels

3) Providing advice and guidance on internal and external communication to service centres, divisional teams, and front line personnel at corps and centres

Key responsibilities:

1. Promoting the work of The SA in the media through traditional and new media channels

2. Supporting the Head of PR and Communications and colleagues in the PR and Communications office to deliver and implement external communication strategies

3. Delivering and supporting the achievement of national, regional and local media coverage

4. Developing and sustaining positive relationships with national, regional and local media

5. Drafting, editing and distributing cross-platform materials for external media

6. Actively selling in stories to the media

7. Setting up media interviews with representatives and clients, and supporting internal stakeholders with their media work

8. Prioritising and dealing promptly with media queries, requests for interviews and for information about specific Salvation Army services and campaigns

9. Drafting plans for designated media campaigns and opportunities

10. Participating in on-call out-of-hours media duties as required

11. Helping to maintain and build the reputation of The SA with internal stakeholders and external media

12. Identifying, interviewing and maintaining case studies for use in internal and external media to promote key messages and campaigns

13. Identifying communication opportunities to engage internal stakeholders and media in our work

14. Producing engaging and informative multi-platform content for external and internal stakeholders to develop our profile on all channels

15. Developing and sustaining positive relationships with department and unit heads, divisional teams and front line personnel at corps and centres to source stories and content for cross-platform internal channels and external media

16. Supporting the Internal Communications and Engagement Manager to deliver and implement the territorial internal communications strategy and policy

17. Advising managers - particularly department and unit heads, service centre teams, divisional teams, corps officers and centre managers - on sensitive and complex communications challenges, including crisis communications issues

18. Delivering training, advice and support about internal and external communications to service centre, divisional teams, and front line personnel at corps and centres.
