Manpower is currently recruiting for a Specialist Support Worker - Substance Misuse to work within the Homelessness Service of the Salvation Army based in Ipswich, for a temporary assignment until approximately 31st March 2017. You will be required to work 35 hours per week on a rota basis that would cover 7 days a week (there would not be the expectation of working every weekend); shifts normally are rostered for approx. 8hrs and cover mornings and evenings.

The role of the Specialist Support Worker with The Salvation Army is critical to providing an enhanced level of service for vulnerable clients. As a highly competent Specialist Support Worker you will be working within the Substance Misuse programme and/or team to plan and deliver a high quality support service, which promotes client choice and control and ensures clients learn new skills, make positive life choices and achieve the best possible outcomes.

You will be required to carry out client checks, planning and risk assessments as required, advise clients to adopt sensible substance use and support through the preparation, detoxification and aftercare process, and develop and deliver therapeutic group sessions. You will work with clients as they reach the end of their stay, to support the practical and emotional aspects of moving on, helping them to utilise the basic life-skills they have gained in the project and continue working with them in the community to sustain their tenancy.

The ideal candidate will hold a substance Misuse qualification, have knowledge of Drug & Alcohol Issues, and have a track record of engaging, developing and delivering high quality substance misuse and prevention support services to communities.

You will be a proactive and confident communicator with excellent interpersonal skills, the ability to build positive working relationships with vulnerable service users whilst maintaining strict professional boundaries, have excellent advocacy skills, and motivation towards supporting vulnerable clients to achieve focussed and positive life outcomes.

You should have experience of working in partnership and developing services with range of providers to ensure reduction in substance misuse of service users and experience of working with people with substance misuse problems, conducting tests for substance use and making rehabilitation referral applications.
