This role is for part time hours only.
It will be a 4 days on 4 days off shift pattern and will consist of 2 early shifts and 2 late shifts (Early-17:00-12:00, late-15:00-20:00)


Main Purpose:
To facilitate the smooth running of the baggage system by providing a comprehensive response to baggage jams, misrouted baggage and system faults. To ensure compliance with health and Safety regulations through commitment to the safety protocols.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES NB: THE POST HOLDER WOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR SOME OR ALL OF THE FOLLOWING:

Carry out any other ad hoc activities or other duties as and when necessary to meet the varying demands of the business and satisfy customer needs.
Ability to read flight information and understand flight times, terminal points and airline schedules.
Be aware of other stakeholder requirements and manage area of work as appropriate
Provide ad hoc support throughout contingency events
Participate in work related training and individual improvement programmes
Report any operational difficulties using correct communication protocols

Manual Intervention:
To manually intervene when bags cannot be processed by the system
Manually handle baggage on a daily basis including:
*Safely offloading baggage produce from various types of conveyor and baggage system
*Input secured baggage into the BHS
*Manually re-route bags as necessary
Provide Co-ordination services as required to support the processes
Provide a driving service as required
Process standard and non-standard baggage as appropriate
HBS
Assist with daily testing regime and power cycling activities on all HBS machines to ensure compliance
Provide 1st line response to faults
Manual Coding
Scan bags that the BHS system cannot recognise using the manual coding hand scanner
Reconcile bags to flights on the computer
Direct problematic/other baggage to the problem bag area
Conduct visual inspections in areas of coverage

Cleaning:
Carry out regular cleaning activities in areas of work.
Carry out regular cleaning of BHS equipment and relevant footprint.

Maintenance:
Assist with operational orientated maintenance on the Baggage Handling System
Assist with maintenance work programmes as required and ensure full accountability in matters pertaining to maintenance job plans

Skills: Essential
Basic to Intermediate IT/Keyboard skills
Ability to cope with sudden workload
Willingness to work flexibly to support the business.
Willingness to attend training relevant to role as required
Ability to communicate effectively at varying levels, face to face; in writing and via telephone/radio
To work as an effective team member, assisting colleagues where appropriate
Health & Safety legislation and regulations applicable to the role

Skills: Desirable
Ability to identify potential problems and resolve these or escalate as necessary.
Good knowledge of airline terminal disposition (which terminals airlines operate from)
Good knowledge of inbound and outbound flights

Experience:
Working in a fast-paced industrial environment.
Experience of working within an airport
5 GCSE's or equivalent

OTHER REQUIREMENTS OF THE JOB:
Current UK Driving Licence (if required to drive)
