Manpower Plymouth is delighted to be working with a local transport company who is now looking for a Health, Safety and Environmental Officer. This is a newly appointed role due to the company's expansion and would suit a Health and Safety Officer looking to progress and develop in their career.

About the Job
As Health, Safety and Environmental Officer you will provide general HSE advice and training to all members of staff on site and give strong, administrative support to the Health & Safety Manager. You will have responsibility for the design, continual develop and review of the organisations management systems which will include - ISO4001, BS OHSAS 18001, BS25999/ISO 22301 and emergency management systems.

This is a highly autonomous role with the current HSE Manager now looking for a 'right hand man' to take on a lot of responsibility from day one. With your industrial background in health and safety, you will be able to provide support and briefings to the Health and Safety Committee, carry out and produce internal audits and inspections, assist in the development and review of policies, risk assessments, method statements and safe systems of work for all members of staff on site. In addition, you will be given the opportunity to coordinate training sessions at different sites of the business, liaising with managers and contractors in the process to ensure these sessions run smoothly.

About the ideal candidate
Due to the high risk, health and safety nature of the role, we are looking for either NEBOSH General Occupational Safety and Health Certificate or NEBOSH National Certificate in Construction Health and Safety. You will have an up to date, working knowledge of Health, Safety and Environmental rules and regulations with recent industry experience. It would be beneficial if you are a current IOSH technician with proven experience working with management systems as noted above. An ambitious candidate who wants to develop their skills will be well suited, as our client would like to see their newly appointed officer consistently attend training courses to maintain their TechIOSH status as well as obtaining a diploma which will be funded by the business.

As you will have the opportunity to work with all levels of the business, excellent communication skills are essential as well as the ability to be personable and approachable when conducting training courses. Being such an autonomous role, candidates who are confident in their abilities and are able to make independent decisions will thrive in this position and will be given the right tools and opportunities to learn more and develop their knowledge and skills.

Due to the nature of the job, you will need to be willing to attend out of hours calls (where practical) and work occasional weekends and nights as required.

Salary and Benefits

-£23,935 - £27394 depending on experience

-6 months full pay sick with 6 months half pay after the first 6 months in the role
