The UK Government is reviewing the employment
status of workers - a likely result of European employment directives
and a need for clearer definition. It will review whether the
present coverage of employment rights is sufficient and is aimed
at sectors including agency workers (as well as clergy and armed
forces).
The probable aim is to close the gap between
the varying rights and benefits enjoyed by ‘employees’
and ‘workers’.
Manpower’s clients are in a favourable position – we have a written employment contract favoured by unions and
take on many of the employer liabilities that other agencies
do not recognise.
Manpower is the employer and provides temporary workers
with rights and benefits above the minimum statutory requirement
and equal to the permanent workforce.
