TRAINING HIGH PRIORITY FOR UK WORKERS Manpower survey finds that four out of five employees expect their company to provide work-based learning
Three quarters (77 per cent) of British workers expect to be trained as part of their job, according to a study by Manpower, the UK’s leading employment agency.
The survey also reveals the widespread appetite for skills development - of the 39 per cent of workers receiving formal training, a third (38 per cent) would like more.
Amongst employees who do not receive work-based learning, a large majority (67 per cent) argue that lack of training could be a reason to change jobs.
Greg Teare, Operations Director at Manpower, said: “It’s great news that employees expect formal training. This indicates that people are becoming increasingly concerned with career-development. The UK currently has a large skills shortage, and work-based training is key to addressing this.”
The results support Manpower’s decision to introduce Evaluate, a new skills assessment and training tool. Evaluate contains more than 70 tests which measure a candidate’s skills, identify areas for further development. It also provides training courses to up-skill candidates to suit exactly what employers need. Manpower also offers all staff and candidates free access to more than 1,000 online courses through their Direct Training service, covering a range of areas including computer skills, leadership, communication and customer service.
