MANPOWER EMPLOYEE HONOURED BY SCOTLAND YARD IN HOME ALONE CASE

Angie Blackburn, a Manpower Customer Services Adviser employed at BT Norwich, last week accepted an Exceptional Recognition award from Scotland Yard in London for her outstanding conduct in helping a small child who was left home alone.

Angie, who has been trained in interpersonal skills by BT and has experience of a wide range of customer calls, kept the child on the phone until the police could get to the property and take her to the safety of the local police station.

Angie’s line manager Nicki Howlett commented: “Angie is an extremely valued member of the team. She went above and beyond the call of duty, staying on more than 2 hours after her shift ended to continue the phone call. Through Angie’s quick thinking, cool head and determination in the most difficult of circumstances a little girl was saved from harm. The police were extremely grateful for Angie’s efforts and the assistance given by the team. We are all extremely proud of her.”

On receiving the award, Angie said, “I’m delighted to accept this award. The training I’ve received during my two years working for Manpower and BT enabled me to help the Police resolve this situation. It was both an emotionally and physically draining call to take but a call that had a very happy ending when the Police advised me the child was safe”.
