75 PER CENT OF PEOPLE LIKELY TO LOOK FOR A NEW JOB IN NEXT 12 MONTHS

Nearly 75 per cent of people are likely to look for a new job in the next 12 months, according to new research by Manpower, the leading recruitment specialists.

The independent research, carried out by research company TRBI on behalf of Manpower, asked respondents about their intentions for the next 12 months. Key findings show that:
  • 73 per cent are likely to look for a new job
  • 27 per cent of respondents are unlikely to look for a new job
  • 76 per cent will look for a permanent job
  • 54 per cent of those who have worked as a temp, did so whilst looking for permanent work.
Charles Ashworth, Chief Operating Officer for Manpower, says: “These findings suggest that it is becoming increasingly common for people to change jobs on a regular basis and that people expect to have more than one career in their lifetime – something that can be very appealing.

“It’s interesting that over three quarters of people will look for a permanent job. It seems people like the security of a permanent role, but will change jobs until they find the one that suits them. As the research also shows, many people temp whilst looking for permanent role. Temping can provide more flexibility and the variety enables people to learn new skills and try out different roles.”

Charles continues: “Career changes can be very positive – enabling people to learn new skills and broaden their knowledge base. If you are considering a career change it is important to think about what you want from a new job and what role would suit your personality and skills set. Consider what transferable skills you have and how you could use these in a new role. You must do your research; ask people who have changed careers, get advice from friends and relatives and contact recruitment agencies, like Manpower, who will be able to offer advice and offer skills assessment to help you make decisions. We aim to help people find the right job for them.”
