The Opportunity

We are pleased to offer an excellent opportunity for a Maintenance Electrician to join the on-site facilities team at HMP Onley.

This role supports the safe, compliant, and efficient operation of electrical systems within a secure prison environment on behalf of His Majesty's Prison and Probation Service (HMPPS). A weekend rota is in place (1 in 3 weekends), with an additional allowance payable for weekend working.


The Role

As a Maintenance Electrician, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality electrical maintenance across the site, helping to ensure a safe and well-maintained environment for staff and residents.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Planned and preventative electrical maintenance, including associated administrative tasks
  • Fault finding and problem solving on a range of electrical systems
  • Like-for-like replacements and minor electrical works
  • Carrying out electrical inspections and testing in accordance with BS7671, with accurate recording of results
  • Ensuring all electrical systems remain safe, compliant, and fully operational
  • Supporting the Responsible Person and Authorised Person when required
  • Ensuring Health & Safety standards, risk assessments, and safe systems of work are consistently followed
  • Assisting with escorting duties and other site-related tasks as required

About You

Essential requirements:

  • City & Guilds 2367 or 2357 Level 2 Electrical Installation (or equivalent)
  • BS7671 18th Edition (17th Edition considered with upskilling available)
  • Strong understanding of Health & Safety requirements
  • Experience in planned and preventative maintenance
  • Good organisational and time management skills
  • Ability to work independently and use initiative
  • Experience working to tight deadlines
  • Comfortable working at heights
  • Knowledge of Electrical Systems and Electricity at Work Regulations
  • Basic IT skills

Desirable:

  • Experience with fire alarm and CCTV systems

Security Clearance

This position is subject to Prison Security Clearance. Full support will be provided throughout the clearance process.
