Our client, The Open University is a public distance learning and Research University, and one of the biggest universities in the UK for undergraduate education. Their innovative and inclusive approach to education has seen 1.89 million people, all over the world, realising their educational ambitions by studying with the University since it opened in 1969.

The OU is looking to recruit a Events Marketing Officer to join them from 30th September for a 6-8 week period, working a 37hr week, paying £13.11ph. There may be some UK travel and maybe if required overnight stays.

The role is to;

Lead on the end-to-end implementation of event attendance from concept to delivery and evaluation, including: event stand design, content and any activity: liaising and negotiating with event organisers and suppliers; overseeing the end-to-end logistics of the event including travel and accommodation; liaising with organisers to fulfil event publicity and promotion of the event and the OU's participation in it; coordinating the appropriate level of staffing, staff briefing and management of the stand; being part of the event team on event to promote the products, services and brand of the OU.

Liaise externally with the clients and suppliers, and internally with Communications, Academic Units and Nations teams regarding arrangements, publicity and staffing and any other issues pertaining to BDU events, to ensure the OU has the best representation and key clients are looped in.

Skills and experience


A successful track record of planning and managing events from concept to delivery and evaluation, ideally B2B conferences and exhibitions.

  • Strong project management skills.
  • Experience of managing multiple tasks simultaneously and reprioritising according to need. Highly effective and confident communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills, both internally and externally.
  • Budget management experience. Strong IT skills

A team worker who is goal-orientated and able also to work on their own initiative.

  • A resilient to changing priorities and a demanding role.
  • Creative thinker and problem-solver.

A confident approach to selling face-to-face at events, approaching potential customers and negotiating with stakeholders.
