JOB DESCRIPTION


Post Title:Switchboard Operator (0.5)

Contract:0.5 FTE -18.5 hours per week

Hours of work Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday 1pm - 5pm
Thursday 1.30pm - 5pm
Friday 2pm - 5pm

Location:Curzon Building, City Centre

Purpose of Post

This is a part time afternoon post joining the current switchboard team providing the main switchboard service for Birmingham City University.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

*To operate the main Birmingham City University switchboard, taking all internal and external calls and efficiently redirecting them to various departments, as required.

*To provide excellent customer service to all callers.

*To assist with keeping the computerised Birmingham City University internal directory up-to-date.

*To deal with general enquiries (sometimes complex) from staff, students, visitors and callers

*To carry out scheduled checks on the switchboard on a daily basis.

*To test that the ansaphone or voicemail system is active when the switchboard is closed.

*To provide cover for reception when required.

*To log calls onto the IT Help Desk System when required.

*To use e-mail, where appropriate, to communicate and pass messages to University staff.

*To conduct yourself in a professional manner which reflects credit on the University and its services

This post will be supervised and report to the Reception/Switchboard Supervisor

Requirements of the Post holder

Work Experience and Formal Qualifications

*Educated to GCSE level C or equivalent, particularly in English Language
*Switchboard experience desirable but not essential
*Customer service experience essential
*Word Processing to RSA I or equivalent would be advantageous
*Receptionist experience would be advantageous
