An exciting opportunity has arisen to join a world leading global organisation, our Global FMCG Client, are currently seeking a Product Development Technologist for their Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream brand, based at the Sharnbrook, Bedfordshire - MK44- (Just a 40 minute drive from Milton Keynes)!

This is a full time temporary role for a period of 6 months, working a 37.5 hour week. This role is paying between £28,300 - £35,400, depending on experience.

Ben & Jerry's Homemade Inc., started in 1978 in a renovated gas station in Burlington, Vermont, USA, founded by childhood friends and dedicated activists Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield. Nowadays our products are distributed in 35 countries in supermarkets, grocery stores, convenience stores, franchised Ben & Jerry's Scoop Shops, restaurants and other venues.

To ensure Ben & Jerry's has the best ice cream made in the best possible way, its R&D team plays a key role in delivering renovation, innovation, value improvement and quality improvement throughout the portfolio of Ben & Jerry's super premium, ice-cream products.

The candidate will assist the Technical Project Leader (TPL) in the on-time and in-full (OTIF) delivery of all R&D projects related to the B&J's European Portfolio, along with certain global projects. The duties include, but are not limited to:

*Scoping and development of product ideas, flavours, designs and formulations
*Preparation and tasting of laboratory samples and product prototypes
*Execution of quality validation assessments
*Generation of product specifications (Interspec/PLM), declarations (nutrition and legal) and certifications (i.e. fair trade, GMO-free, Kosher, Halal)
*Organization and management of R&D trials in the Global and Regional Design Centre labs, in pilot plants and in sourcing units to ensure we have successful product launches.
*Consult and brainstorm with vendors to discuss new product innovations and equipment while assisting in providing technical expertise for product innovation and improvements.
*Working to identify and evaluate new ingredient opportunities coming from values-led suppliers

In addition, for specific activities or projects, the candidate will independently act as work stream leader which includes:

*Working closely with Brand Development (BD)
*Organizing and participating in regional "trend treks" and brainstorming/ideation sessions with the goal of replenishing the global innovation funnel
*Participation in defining the scope of new projects
*Assessment of the technical feasibility of projects
*Being responsible for the overall technical delivery of the project
*Defining, planning and tracking the technical project steps/milestones
*Managing the relationship among the functions involved in the projects: BD, R&D, Procurement, technical mangers and factory implementation teams, etc.
*The role requires the management of 3 to 5 different projects in parallel and at a fast pace, with the addition of some everyday tasks and duties.

Experience & Qualifications:
*University degree ideally in food science but will consider those from Chemistry, Process Engineering etc. who have the relevant working experience.
*Candidates are expected to have experience in product formulation/development with food being a bonus!
*The ideal candidate needs to be passionate about food and excited about identifying new ingredients and new opportunities for differentiating Ben & Jerry's in the world of ice cream.
*Conceptual awareness of EU legal and regulatory requirements as related to food products would be an advantage.
*Consumer orientation: insights and understanding of the B&J's consumer.
*Proven communication and interpersonal skills, ability to work with cross functional teams.
*Be proactive in the face of new challenges
*Some travel to Europe required usually 8 times per year.
