Manpower is currently recruiting for Child & Family Workers on behalf of West Sussex County Council to work on temporary assignments starting as soon as possible, based in Crawley.

You will be required to work as part of a flexible staff group providing a service across a spectrum of need in accordance with the Children Act 1989 and 2004. Services will be provided in partnership with families, aims to support families to make positive changes and enable children to reach their full potential. Services are underpinned by a commitment to treating people as individuals.

You will support registered Social Workers in assessing, planning and delivering interventions to children and families including supporting step down processes and transfer to Early Help services, develop and offer a creative range of services for children and their families to meet needs as identified.

You will undertake assessment work and interventions, manage a caseload under regular supervision, undertake direct work with families, contribute to the assessment and planning processes for Children in Need, Children Looked After and children subject to a Child Protection Plan.

The ideal applicant will have an understanding of child protection and safeguarding procedures, practice and policy, knowledge and understanding of the development of children, and age appropriate behaviour and an understanding of a range of interventions that can be used with children and families to achieve change.

You will require sound and accurate IT knowledge, effective communication skills and hold QCF Level 3 Diploma for the Children and YPeople's Workforce (or equivalent) or equivalent experience. You will also have experience of using a range of direct work interventions and experience of working with children and their families in crisis or complex situations.

The role requires the postholder to be able to travel throughout the county including to locations that are not always easily accessible by public transport therefore a valid and full driving licence is required.

The work will involve exposure to people/situations which regularly place emotional demands on the job holder due to the mental or physical conditions of the children. Due to the nature of this role the work can sometimes include contact with parents and/or children who may be abusive, aggressive or distressed.
