Due to continued growth, we have requirement for an Interim Data & Insight Manager to join their successful team on an initial 6 month FTC.

The Role:

You will be responsible for providing leadership and direction to the team, supporting two team leaders and establishing new systems and processes for working which enable the team to:

  • Ensure the robustness and fitness for purpose of University data
  • Inform strategic decisions relating to the Universities academic and organisational performance and competitive positioning with relevant and timely data evidenced insight
  • Ensure our external reporting responsibilities are fulfilled
  • Roll out and enhance our fledgling business intelligence/management information resources
  • Coordinate and report on a range of student surveys to gain useful primary evidence for enhancement purposes

The range of data and topics involved are typically complex and require the team to undertake highly technical analyses using a range of HE-specific quantitative and qualitative data-sets.

Your Duties and Responsibilities:


  • In collaboration with the Head of Planning & Insight and the Institutional and Strategic Insight Managers, take a leading role in establishing robust management information processes at the university, undertaking development and enhancement activities relating to the systems and processes which underpin the provision of management information; agreeing standards; and determining the quality of service provided.
  • Oversee the development and delivery of training and support around management information, data analysis and interpretation, ensuring expert guidance, advice and troubleshooting support is available to all stakeholders.
  • Provide mentoring and development support for managers within the Insight Team to ensure they are well-equipped to provide effective direction and support for team members whilst managing complex workloads and multiple demands for expert support and advice from colleagues across the institution to assist with complex requests for management information, data analysis and interpretation.
  • Review current processes for strategic level assurance of the University's statutory data returns and advise on opportunities for enhancements. In collaboration with colleagues within the Planning & Insight Team, ensure these arrangements link effectively with operational assurance arrangements relating to the returns undertaken within the team.
  • Review and develop consensus around the role of the team regarding student surveys (including the National Student Survey).
  • Provide line-management support and give direction to the Institutional and Strategic Insight Managers within the Insight section.

  • Undertake other duties as determined by the Head of Planning & Insight.

    We are looking for an experienced manager, who is good with data and is able to coach/mentor/develop new managers to grow into their roles. Ideally you will have experience of working in business intelligence / management information delivery.
