An exciting opportunity has arisen to join a world leading global organisation. Our client, a blue chip IT company is currently seeking an Infrastructure Support Specialist II based on their customer site in Slough (with occasional travel to London Cabot Sq., E14). This is a permanent, full-time role (37.5 hours per week), working Monday to Friday 7am - 9pm (split shifts), Saturday 8am-5pm and sometimes required to do on-call work (possibly Sundays). They are looking for somebody to start ASAP. The role is paying up to £33,335 per annum, pro rata, depending on experience (plus benefits).

An Engineer is sought to predominantly undertake a break-fix role with the ability to perform cabling. The successful candidate will be responsible for day to day administration of technical infrastructure & services (networks, systems, and databases), covering the physical delivery, maintenance and ongoing support, providing systems programming, installation, customisation, testing services and technical support. They will provide problem diagnosis & resolution, install & configure customer solutions, install operating systems, firmware updates, software patches and software updates to achieve optimum product functionality. They will be responsible for planning, designing, implementing and leading installation projects or process and will manage client/server issues, technology procurement & maintaining integrity and links. They will also provide technical support and advise on the use of programming tools, database systems and the optimisation of production programs.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Installations, maintenance, and repairs on customer equipment.
  • Installation, termination and testing of all data centre interlink cabling (i.e. CAT-5e, CAT-6 6A, fibre optic)
  • Providing Server hardware support across a multi-vendor environment, Hardware consists of H P ISS, Dell servers, I B M Blades & IB M P770's.
  • Provide Data Centre Facilities management activities such as but not limited to IMAC work, escorting external resources, requesting access etc.
  • Strong Customer relationship building skills. Ability to manage complex Customer problems
  • Understands customer goals; identifies consequences of various solutions.
  • Configures system hardware & software. Assembles and integrates system/product, and verifies system/product operation.
  • Uses proactive monitoring procedures to identify problem prevention opportunities.
  • Maintains a high level of customer satisfaction by clarifying customer needs and ensuring that they are met. Handles customer-relations problems promptly and appropriately.
  • To ensure all calls are resolved within the agreed SLA, ensuring calls are escalated when required and customers are updated, until the call is resolved and closed.
  • Perform duties at a team leader level.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Strong Customer relationship building skills. Ability to manage complex Customer problems
  • Must have very strong knowledge of H P Proliant & Blade servers.
  • H P server accreditation preferred.
  • Good server hardware knowledge - understanding of server models, upgrades options, hardware components
  • Sound knowledge of ESD working practice
  • Sound knowledge of general Health & Safety
  • Good knowledge of DC Cabling (i.e. CAT-5e, CAT-6 6A, fibre optic)

Desirable:

  • SQL experience is desirable
  • Some exposure in Data centre - Cabinets, Power consumption of devices, etc.
  • Good Excel skills
  • ITIL Foundation
  • H PE tools/system knowledge i.e. parts ordering and call management via FSM/SF
  • Good knowledge of Service Now (SNOW)

OTHER
Telephone Standby (1 in 3 or 4) will be paid at 0.1 on top of basic salary rate
All overtime will be paid at 1.3 x base rate.
