Main Purpose
Take full ownership of the P&L and Balance sheet activity of the Testing and Validation directorate that you will be largely supporting ensuring best use of core funding whilst acting as a key member of the finance team.
To ensure that the business operates within a robust financial control environment where accurate and relevant management information is provided to both internal and external stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Partner closely with the testing and validation team providing key financial support where required.
- Attend monthly Testing & Validation direct reports meeting and add value by reporting on the financials. Obtain a deep understanding of planned activity and forge strong working relationships with the Testing & Validation team to benefit the business.
- Preparation of monthly management accounts for the catapults commercial arm ODSL.
- Recognise appropriate revenue on a monthly basis for the commercial and collaborative research and development activity in Blyth, ensuring regular challenge with senior stakeholders where appropriate.
- Develop the commercial pricing and company overhead recovery model suggesting/implementing improvements where applicable.
- Assist in the annual budgeting/forecast process by gaining a deep understanding of our Blyth site activity, whilst working closely with key members of the Testing & Validation team to ensure an accurate reflection of financials.
- Regular review of Blyth site core costs such as rates, insurance and electricity, ensuring best value and thereby aiding the optimization of core funding.
- Oversee preparation of monthly management accounts for ODSL subsidiary WEBS.
- Assist in completion/review of ODSL monthly balance sheet reconciliations.
- Obtain and collate monthly overtime timesheets, ensuring appropriate authorisation before passing to Glasgow colleagues for inclusion in monthly payroll.
- Monitor and maintain petty cash records for Blyth site.
- Carry out annual fixed asset verification exercise to ease auditors concerns on any potential impairment issues.
- Ensure finance procedures are being adhered to at all times.
Key Capabilities
- Qualified Accountant.
- Business partnering experience essential.
- Variable cost experience highly desirable but not essential.
- Strong Communication Skills - both written and verbal.
- Ability to effectively prioritise workload and work to demanding deadlines.
- Confidence to work with individuals from across the organisation at all seniority levels
- Team player and self-starter with ability to work with minimum supervision and work proactively using their own initiative.
- Technically able with up to date knowledge of UK Reporting requirements and strong analytical skills.
- Proficient with Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint & Outlook software.
- Knowledge of SAGE accounting software advantageous.
- Public company background advantageous.
- ERDF, EP7 and Horizon 2020 knowledge highly desirable but not essential
