An excellent opportunity has arisen to join a world leading global organisation; our client is currently looking for a Microbiologist based at their prestigious facility in Port Sunlight. This is a full time temporary role for a period of 6 months- 12 months working a 37.5 hour week. This role is paying up to £32,288K per annum pro rata, depending on experience.

Job description

This role is for a microbiologist working at our client's R&D Facility at Port Sunlight as part of the Science & Technology Group. The role will support a Horizon 2020 EU Research & Innovation project, SafeConsumE aimed at providing effective and sustainable strategies to reduce the incidence of domestic food-borne illnesses.


The principal responsibilities of the role are to:

  • assess the performance of current and novel hygienic cleaning technologies using existing methodologies against relevant bacteria;
  • develop, validate and implement new assays to assess the performance of hygienic cleaning systems;
  • generate robust data packages to support patenting, data publication and product claim generation.

The role holder will be expected to analyse and report results and make recommendations both in written and verbal form to key stakeholders. The role holder will determine microbiological work plans, conduct experimental studies and act as the main microbiology contact for logistical planning.

The role holder will work as part of a multidisciplinary team with chemists and other physical scientists as well as liaising with microbiology counterparts in other Unilever teams and other SafeConsumE partner organisations.

Competencies


  • Ability to managing own work plan, including experimental activities, data analysis and reporting.
  • Ability to work independently under the guidance of science area leader.
  • Ability to adapt and develop current methodologies.
  • Awareness of intellectual property.

  • Experience and Skills


  • Degree (or relevant experience) in microbiology or a closely related science area
  • Good working knowledge and experience of microbiological procedures including
  • aseptic technique
  • culturing range of bacteria and following standard procedures
  • use of single and multichannel pipettes, plate readers, robotic work stations

  • Previous experience in developing new methodologies is preferred
  • Ability to present and report results and recommendations to project teams
  • Good working knowledge and experience of using Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook)
  • Ability to conduct scientific searches and basic statistical analysis

  • Preferred experience of innovation in home and personal care products
