My Client is a renowned manufacturer of automotive components, created to fully automotive TS16949 & ISO 14001 standards. In this ever growing sector, I am thrilled to be supporting a major growth campaign across several areas of the business, in particular their New Product Introduction Engineer Team.

Do you hold an Engineering HNC/HND or are a fully experienced engineer with a minimum of 5 years engineering experience ideally in a precision engineering/automotive environment?

Are you conversant with AIAG core tools like APQP, FMEA and PPAP methodologies & Auto CAD?

Do you hold a desire to research and become familiar with new / innovative production processes / technologies?

What does your new role look like?

  • You will be involved in the design & production process to meet the customer specification (capability and TAKT) incorporating SMED and Poke Yoke devices as appropriate.
  • Creation of stage / process drawings using Auto CAD and also checking / approving stage / process drawings.
  • Define the capital, tooling, gauging and product cost.
  • Programme and operation of CNC turning, and grinding machinery
  • Capex creation, completion and presentation to the directors as required.
  • Liaising with purchasing to ensure best possible price and lead times are obtained prior to ordering new equipment / tooling.
  • Liaise with development line engineer to ensure samples are manufactured on time and to the required quality standards.
  • Providing assistance to operations if required and approved by the Advanced Engineering Manager.
  • Training and development of graduate engineers.
  • Set up and lead APQP teams for NPI involving all necessary departments inline with AIAG guidelines.
  • Design using Auto CAD, oversee or outsource design of tooling and gauging.
  • Create and maintain project / production plans from customer order to production handover.
  • Liaise and visit customers in UK and abroad to discuss design for manufacture and other design / specification related issues.
  • Co-ordinate machine trials and confirm process capability.
  • Process customer and internal ECN's for new products that have not been passed over to
  • operations.
  • Ensure that tool cards, standard operating procedures, setting instructions, etc are created for new products.
  • Ensure that SAP records are created (routing, bill of materials etc).
  • Create APQP documentation.

What will you need to succeed in your new role?

  • You have personal drive and self motivation
  • Happy to work on own or as part of a team
  • Hold a sound understanding of metal cutting machinery and manufacturing techniques
  • You are free to travel often at short notice both domestically and internationally
  • Have a thorough understanding of the requirements of the automotive industry
  • You are self disciplined, responsible to work under pressure to tight time lines
  • Can communicate effectively at all levels
  • Innovative, visionary, willing to push the technical boundaries
  • Technically competent and a good project planner / coordinator
  • Adaptable, able to establish good working relationship with people at all levels
