Waiting & Bar Staff required for a permanent contract for a department of Oxford University. The waiting staff work in the catering areas of the operation and providing a catering service to the students, staff and clients of the Department.

General catering duties:

  • Serve breakfast, lunch and dinner to staff, visitors and residents.
  • Set up tables in the restaurant ensuring that all necessary items are present and laid neatly, to the correct standard.
  • Provide plated or silver service as requested; please note that the normal catering service provided is plated food, served to the customer.
  • Provide tea and coffee service, delivering refreshments as requested to the common rooms, meeting rooms or offices.
  • Ensure that all of the catering preparation areas are kept clean and tidy at all times.
  • Maintain a safe and hygienic working environment, paying particular attention at the end of service.
  • Collect crockery and glasses that has been left in the meeting rooms.
  • Move and arrange the tables and chairs in the restaurant according to the reservations and their specific requirements.
  • Ensure the restaurant and other catering areas are prepared correctly for the next service, checking arrangements on the online computer booking system (CABS) or with the Restaurant Managers to see what is required.
  • Work on other sites where the Department is carrying out business.
  • Report both customer complaints and compliments to the Restaurant Manager and Common Room Cafe

Duties:

  • Provide a café & bar service to all users of the Department and Residential Centre including students, staff, visitors and residents.
  • Provide tea and coffee service in the Common Room for scheduled services for Tea/Coffee breaks.
  • The bar menu includes Paninis and a variety of hot beverages and the bar person is required to heat up Paninis and prepare hot beverages.
  • Ensure that all areas of service are clean and in tidy condition for guests, regularly collecting empty glasses, dirty cups and cleaning ashtrays from the Common Room and Courtyard.
  • Follow the correct procedure in controlling stock. Ensuring that all movement of stock is either recorded or processed through the till.
  • Ensure that any wastage is recorded accurately on the Wastage/Ullage Log.
  • Wash glasses in the glasswasher and ensure that there is ample quantity of clean glasses in the bar at all times.
  • Follow the correct procedures operating the till, taking payments and doing the cashing up at the end of each shift, making sure that any variances are explained on the day.

You will work an average of 36.5 hours per week and shifts will vary to cover the hours of business and will include weekend and evening work. The salary is £16,654 - £16,983 dependant on experience.
