Job Details

An excellent opportunity has arisen to join a world leading organisation, our global FMCG client, the powerhouse behind brands such as Tresemme, Sunsilk, Dove, and TIGI, have an opening for an experienced Hair Product Evaluation Scientist, to be based at their prestigious Research & Development Facility in Port Sunlight, Wirral. This is a full time position, a temporary role for 9 months, paying up to £35,615 per annum, pro rata.

The main purpose of the role is to work within the Hair Consumer Technology and Insights (Appraisal) team to develop instrumental measurement capability and support the global hair care brands through the technical evaluation of product performance for the substantiation of claims and consumer-facing communication.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead aspects of the hair category performance evaluation area and drive continuous improvement in measurement through internal/external networks.
  • Define and implement technical evaluation plans for hair product launches by consulting widely with category partners, and by providing own technical insight.
  • Set, lead and coordinate programmes of testing with the relevant teams and/or 3rd party suppliers, leading discussions to clarify objectives, protocols and action standards.
  • Analyse data and/or reports from internal teams and 3rd party suppliers and add value to the programme by combining knowledge from other sources.
  • Provide expert recommendations and guidance across Unilever measurement communities (including definition of best practice, assisting with strategic planning, capability build and training).
  • Deputise for the Hair Appraisal Manager as appropriate.
  • Provide coaching to other team members.

Key Skills:

  • Strong science background in chemistry, physics or closely related subject.
  • Significant experience working in a similar role, candidates from FMCG (highly beneficial), healthcare, pharma, foods or other relevant research field will be considered.
  • Proven ability to lead own projects, within the area of measurement sciences.
  • Proven ability to manage stakeholders.
  • Proven knowledge of setting-up industrial partnerships and designing technical tests and experiments within a strategic role.
  • Ability to interpret complex data from multiple sources, for concise, clear insights / conclusions and communication to a variety of audiences.
  • Experimental design, familiarity with statistical tools and statistical interpretation of data.
  • Strong Excel skills, with the ability to create formulas, v-lookups, pivot tables etc. to support statistical work/data collection.
