Auto Electrician

£38,000 plus great benefits

HOURS OF WORK: 37 hours per week based on three week rota including some weekend working. JOB PURPOSE SUMMARY: To inspect service, maintain and repair varied vehicles and plant fleet. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

  • Recognised auto electrical qualification
  • Minimum of five years vehicle electrical experience
  • Be able to read and interpret electrical drawings
  • Carry out vehicle electrical installation, modification, and diagnostics
  • Current full driving licence
  • Current vocational LGV / PCV driving licence would be desirable but not essential as training will be given.
  • Be able to demonstrate knowledge and skill level at interview
  • Must be very well organised and able to work methodically within defined processes and pay attention to detail
  • Have a good understanding of current Health, Safety and Environmental legislation
  • Work well as part of a team and be able to work unsupervised
  • Form part of an out of hours call out rota work including weekends

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Inspect and test vehicles and plant to our standards and criteria, in accordance with relevant legislation as directed by the Workshop Management. Diagnose faults and repairs relating to all vehicles and plant including that necessary to pass MOT Tests and provide condition and maintenance reports orally and in writing.
  • Identify and report all potential faults or non-compliance effecting operational and roadworthy capability, notifying supervision accordingly.
  • Service and repair vehicles and plant using appropriate equipment and other resources in a proper and safe manner.
  • Interpret and implement technical service data and manufacturer's instructions.
  • Initiate and complete job cards, utilising PIRANA Fleet Management System and manual systems as applicable.
  • Conduct off site inspections, roadside assistance and recovery of defective or damaged vehicles, using suitable equipment, whilst using own initiative when required.
  • Complete and verify all documentation as defined within the Motor Transport operational policies and procedures.
  • Supervise and instruct third parties allocated to assist in all aspects of vehicle maintenance related to a programme of work or delivery of vehicles, equipment or products.
  • Develop own levels of expertise, including technical knowledge, skills and performance through training and self-knowledge. Meeting standards of performance and motivating peers through example.
  • Recommend improvements or modification that may be considered necessary to improve the vehicles economic and safe operation.

PERSON SPECIFICATION:

  • The candidate will have a positive outlook and attitude, will be capable of identifying and resolving problems and possess good organisational skills.
  • As a prospective candidate you will be capable of working on your own initiative and as part of a team.
  • You will be task oriented, able to communicate well with all stakeholders, be customer focused and capable of delivering excellent service against agreed organisational objectives.
  • The nature of the operation demands an adaptable persona willing to learn and encompass new tasks as well as being keen in assisting the development of both the department and operation as a whole.
  • As the role involves IT based tasks a good working knowledge of computer systems and programs is ideal.
  • The candidate must live within one hour travel time from central Luton and have five year checkable work history
