Formulation Scientist/Chemist

An excellent opportunity has arisen to join a world leading global organisation, our global FMCG client, the powerhouse behind brands such as Persil, Surf, Comfort and Cif, have an opening for an experienced Formulation Scientist/Chemist to be based at their prestigious R&D facility in Port Sunlight, Wirral AND at their research base in Liverpool city centre (L7). This is a full time, temporary role for 6 months paying between £26,750 to £32,888 per annum, pro rata.

This role is for a chemist working as part of the Home Care Science & Technology Group, supporting innovations across laundry, hard surface cleaning, machine and hand dishwashing. The role will support the High Value Materials Programme in the development and assessment of new sustainable ingredients and product formulations.

The ideal candidate would have a physical chemistry background with outstanding experimental technique, attention to detail for the creation of robust data sets and a strong commitment to safe practise in the laboratory.

The principal responsibilities of the role are to:

• prepare and characterise the physico-chemical properties of cleaning product ingredients and formulations;
• assess the cleaning performance of these formulations using standard assays;
• support the identification of new sustainable ingredients (e.g. biodegradable and naturally derived ingredients);
• generate robust data packages to support patenting, data publication and product claim generation.

The role holder will be expected to analyse and report results and make recommendations both in written and verbal form to key stakeholders. The role holder will also be required to set their own day to day work plans, conduct experimental studies

The role holder will work as part of a multidisciplinary team with chemists, modellers and other physical scientists.

Experience and Skills

• Degree (or relevant experience) in colloid science, physical chemistry or a closely related science area.
• Previous experience in formulating or processing detergent or similar products is strongly preferred.
• Ability to present and report results and recommendations to project teams.
• Good working knowledge and experience of using Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook).
• Ability to conduct scientific literature searches and undertake basic statistical analysis.
• Preferred experience of innovation in home and personal care products
