An exciting opportunity has arisen to join a world leading global organisation, our Global FMCG Client, are currently seeking a Food Specification Technologist based at their research and development facility in Sharnbrook, Bedfordshire (MK44) just 40 minutes drove from Milton Keynes. This is a full time temporary role for a period of 6 months, working a 36.25 hour week. This role is paying up to £35400 per annum, pro rata depending on experience.

Job Description:

Role & Responsibilities

The Ben & Jerry's R&D team plays a key role in delivering renovation, innovation, value improvement and quality improvement throughout the portfolio of Ben & Jerry's super premium, ice-cream products.

This role supports the Ben & Jerry's global design team and the broader Refreshment R&D team with a focus on product and packaging specification tasks.

As part of the packaging team, you will be key member of cross-functional project teams, renovating existing and bringing new packaging formats trough to fruition. You will work with, and be supported by the packaging team expertise, gaining knowledge as you go.

  • To compile, edit and maintain high quality product, consumer information and packaging specifications.
  • Author and maintain a portfolio of specifications to support the production of Unilever's products.
  • Ensure all data available to the users is accurate, consistent and robust, enabling efficient production and clear information to consumers that comply with Unilever policies and relevant legislation.
  • Build the specifications against quality standards and model specifications that are deployed cross category, requesting further information as required from a wide network of contacts.
  • Utilise various data sources to ensure accuracy and consistency of data.
  • Create and maintain technical packaging specifications from internal and external supplied data
  • With the support of packaging R&D, liaise with external packaging suppliers on new formats and specifications for given projects
  • The role requires the management of a number of packaging and specification projects in parallel and at a fast pace.
  • Regularly reviewing and reporting project status and updates to a variety of stakeholders.
  • Attend internal and external meetings and calls, taking project actions and ensuring R&D are delivering these in a timely manner
  • With the support of the cross-functional team, create and present project reports

Skills & Experience

  • University degree/diploma or equivalent in a food science/technology or related discipline
  • Candidates are expected to have experience in food industry, preferably in product and/or packaging specification.
  • 2 or more years' experience in Ice Cream product development would be an advantage;
  • Good working knowledge of EU legal and regulatory requirements as related to food products and package labelling.
  • A general understanding of packaging formats and materials
  • Ability to understand technical drawings
  • Diligent, rigorous and accurate with the ability to collate information from multiple sources.
  • Excellent written and oral communication and interpersonal skills, ability to work with cross functional teams.
  • Project management and problem solving experience and ability to prioritise workload against the demand of multiple customers and projects
  • Good computer literacy (Microsoft PP, Excel, Word) with the ability to learn new systems
