Job Details

South Central Ambulance Service is looking for Emergency NHS Call Handlers to work in their Otterbourne office, taking 111 calls.

We are looking for people who want to make a difference - those who are searching for something other than the normal 9-5 job.

Successful candidates will receive substantial training and investment, after which they will be taking calls from the public for this service using an in-house computer system with ongoing support.

This Call Handler role would suit an individual who wants to do something different and is looking for long-term career possibilities within one of the country's top services. This could also be the role for you, if you have a background in caring for others who are looking for some responsibility.

You will be providing first aid information, taking non-emergency calls related to health issues, as well as some emergency calls. The role requires a minimum of 2 GCSE's (or equivalent) in Maths and English and demonstrable customer service experience.

During the initial three month probation period, you will receive £8.62 p/h plus an increased rate for unsociable hours. Please note this role is a temporary to permanent role. When you become a full member of staff, you can expect to earn up to £21,000 a year inclusive with the 25% out-of-hours bonus.

Additionally, you will receive from 27 days holiday per annum (based on full-time hours) plus 8 bank holidays, an NHS pension or NEST scheme and number of high street discounts with great brands such as Nando's and Domino's. Working within the NHS may also entitle you to apply for a Key Worker Housing scheme.

On offer, are four weeks training and a further eight weeks support programme. You will be invited to attend training from either 8.30am - 4.30pm or 5.00pm - 1.00am Monday - Friday for the initial 4 weeks. Therefore, there is great scope to accommodate for pre-existing commitments such as caring responsibilities or study commitments. This role can entail full-time hours when overtime is included and will be subject to personal preference. Should you prefer guaranteed hours, you can opt for 26.5 hours per week as well as making yourself available for overtime.

The site in Otterbourne, Winchester is operational 24/7, 365 days a year, so applicants will need to work outside regular hours as their shift patterns dictate.
