Role Title: Portfolio Officer (Data)

Salary: £24 - 29k per annum, depending on exp'

Type of employment: Fixed Term - 5 month contract

Hours per week: 37 hours per week, Mon - Fri

Location: Any of the offices based across the UK

We are recruiting a Portfolio Officer (Data) to the UK Portfolio team, which can be based in any one of our UK offices. You'll access and analyse the broad range of data held by the Fund, and help other people in the organisation understand it so that their work can be informed by it. Your work will lead to our data being better managed, more used and more influential on our decisions and actions.

Your approach will enable you to provide a suit of standard and bespoke reports / dashboards to Committees, senior directorate staff, managers and any other relevant decision makers (such as local panels) highlighting the reach and impact of the Fund's grant-making.

You will have the opportunity to undertake short research projects on a range of topics and issues, utilising data and your knowledge of our grant making and the wider policy context."

Job purpose

The UK Portfolio tests and grows bold ideas that put people in the lead to address long-term social issues and to improve the quality of life across the UK and internationally. This is achieved in three ways:

  • Bringing people together, supporting communities to be part of and celebrate events of UK-wide significance
  • Growing great ideas, supporting the growth or adaptation of great ideas across the UK
  • Exploring new approaches, developing and test ways of building a stronger civil society

Your role

As an officer at the Fund, whatever your specialism, you'll have plenty of scope for autonomy and responsibility. You'll use your judgement and knowledge to make recommendations and decisions, and your skills in understanding the needs of different customers, providing advice and feedback will come to the fore. You won't need much supervision or oversight from your senior colleagues taking personal leadership of your own work and your own development. You will take pride in your work and positively influence and engage with our customers and stakeholders both internally and externally.

In this particular role, you will provide the critical role of providing peer support to seconded Funding Officers, using your advanced critical thinking skills and expertise (within community, youth, education, international development, health, ageing and/or environment) to ensure effective delivery of the portfolio. You will also be a talent spotter, capable of grasping what's happening within the sector with the ability to work at pace in order to seize the moment and ensure the Portfolio is responsive to applicants' needs. You will support the design of new products, the delivery of learning and development training and the management of complex grants and will be called upon to grants manage some of the portfolio's highest profile Legacy grants.

You will provide a bridge between the UK Portfolio's core staff and its seconded staff and you will play a key role in chairing internal meetings, driving discussion, debate and challenge. You will need to travel extensively for this role, supporting seconded staff across the UK and you will spend a lot of time observing the work of our applicants, providing a critical lens to all work that is being proposed. You will be called upon to manage some of the UK Portfolio's more complex, collaborative proposals.

Of course, you'll also need to work within the Fund's policies and procedures and the necessary legislation, and in a way that is in line with our vision and principles. If the role is based in Wales, or supports customers or colleagues in Wales, an understanding of Welsh language legislation and the Welsh Language Standards of the Fund is required.

Ideal

  • Skilled at research, analysis and consultation skills, with an ability to apply criteria and principles
  • Ability to use new and evolving data analysis technologies and visualization tools
  • Understanding of quantitative and qualitative research methods and data analysis practice
  • Ability to write and speak about complex ideas, information and impact in an engaging and simple way
  • Knowledge of the context for the third sector, the funding landscape and public policy and the people and organisations who are influential in this
  • Desirable to have worked in a similar role / similar tasks before (analysis, writing, sharing, developing policy).
