Technical Workshop Monitor (Fashion and Textiles)

Faculty of Arts, Design and Media

Location: Parkside Building

Per Hour Excluding Holiday Pay depending on experience and responsibility.

We are looking for undergraduate or postgraduate students from ADM to join our Fashion and Textiles Workshop Student Monitor team.

The Student monitors provide students with guidance for using a range of processes in the Fashion and Textiles Workshops sharing their knowledge in the area where their skills are strongest as well as general support across the provision. The role will involve supporting Technicians in the areas of Fashion, Textiles Print, Embroidery and Constructed Textiles ensuring that students working independently create work that contributes to their study and success.

You will be required to provide basic technical support to staff and fellow students using the facilities, ensuring the space is used in a safe way and help the technical team with general housekeeping duties. This is a great opportunity to further develop your own technical understanding for fashion and textiles work, whilst developing your interpersonal skills in a professional working environment.

Hours of Work:

Monday - Thursday 17.00 - 21:00

Friday 16.00 - 19.00

Main duties:

  • To provide basic technical support for students using the Fashion, Textiles Print, Embroidery and Constructed Textiles, MA workshops and P134 workshop facilities. Training and support will be provided to the successful candidate.
  • The preparation, recording and distribution of materials and reporting of any maintenance issues.
  • Ensure that students finish in good time prior to the facilities/building closing.
  • Ensure that students maintain a clean working area prior to leaving the workshop.
  • To assist the workshop technicians in keeping the workshop clean and tidy and stock taking duties.
  • To ensure that students use the workshops in a manner that is in adherence to all relevant health and safety procedures and guidelines.
  • Informing security immediately in the event of an accident or injury.
