An excellent opportunity has arisen to join a world leading global organisation, our global FMCG client, the powerhouse behind brands such as Sure, Rexona & Lynx have an opening for a Supply Chain Senior Data Scientist with Python experience, to be based at their offices in Kingston upon Thames, Surrey. This is a temporary role for 6 months working Monday to Friday paying up to £55,000 per annum, pro rata, depending on experience.

This is an exciting new role in the Data Science Centre of Excellence team in, which is tasked to deliver maximum value from data to drive business and organization performance.

To remain competitive in the future, the business needs to continue its path to become data intelligent. The Information and Analytics team is responsible for building data, data science and analytics as a core capability to help the business become data intelligent and drive business and organization performance. The team will deliver advanced products at scale and work closely with the market teams to ensure that decisions are augmented with insight & recommendations wherever possible.

There are five major themes to the Information and Analytics strategy:

  • Deliver Intelligent systems at scale.
  • Winning disproportionately in Markets.
  • Drive Unilever to assisted and predictive decision-making.
  • Make data a true asset.
  • World-class Information

The role works closely with the Information and Analytics Supply Chain team, that helps markets win in procurement, manufacturing and distribution, leveraging close engagement with market Supply Chain leaders and the Data Science Ecxellence team to solve for both large transformation programs and near-term business problems.

Key accountabilities:

This role will focus on advanced demand forecasting, building models that enable markets to make better planning decisions. It will deliver the priority projects agreed between I&A Supply Chain lead and the markets.

  • Work with the I&A Supply Chain lead and market teams to fully understand the business problems and how to deliver relevant insights that lead to actions.
  • Gather data and build machine learning models to solve advanced forecasting problems requiring predictive and / or prescriptive analytics
  • Guide the work of 3rd party vendors, ensuring optimal delivery while creating IP and capability within Unilever
  • Support product teams scaling models into low-touch solutions to provide optimal ROI from data science.

Experience and Qualifications

  • B.S. or M.S. in a relevant technical field (Operations Research, Computer Science, Statistics, Engineering, or Mathematics)
  • Significant work experience in a data science role with significant focus on Supply Chain applications
  • Appreciation of machine learning, forecasting and Supply chain problems.
  • Woking knowledge of Python and R
  • Experience managing projects from start to finish including supervision of junior resources
  • Experience managing input from 3rd party vendors
  • Experience working with software development teams to convert modelling approaches into scalable tools
  • Passion for empirical research and for answering hard questions with data
  • Ability to apply an agile analytic approach that allows for results at varying levels of precision
  • Ability to communicate complex quantitative insights in a precise, and actionable manner to business leaders
