Job Details

Our client is looking to recruit a temp to perm multi-skilled Plant Maintenance Technician (Mechanical) to join the team in Plymouth. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing preventative maintenance, installations, modifications and machinery breakdowns, reporting directly to the Maintenance Controller.

A thorough working knowledge of mechanical systems is essential, along with a range of maintenance and fault-finding skills around conveyor systems, pneumatic's, compressors and pumps.

Your expertise in these areas means that you'll already have a good understanding of Health & Safety regulations, risk assessments as well as working with and issuing permits to work.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Carrying out routine maintenance / inspections as per schedules
  • Identifying additional requirements for preventive maintenance
  • Diagnosing breakdowns / unplanned maintenance and repair equipment in order to avoid or minimise production downtime
  • Installing / commissioning mechanical equipment in line with manufacturer and Company specifications
  • Carrying out controlled modifications to plant equipment within Company specifications, striving constantly for better production performance and reliability.

As such we would like you to:

  • Hold GCSE's Grades C and above in Maths, Science and English
  • Have experience from working within a production maintenance environment
  • Have achieved a City & Guilds or have experience in an engineering discipline.
  • Have general fabrication skills including, Arc, MIG and gas welding /cutting
  • Be able to diagnose mechanical problems and repair as necessary
  • Be comfortable working to your own initiative, as well as within a team
  • Have a flexible approach to working hours
  • Have a knowledge of gas, and pneumatic systems

The hours are 42.5 per week - Monday to Friday, 7.30am to 4pm. You will also be required to work overtime as required, including evenings, weekends and bank holidays.

Due to the location of the business (Lee Mill) and the lack of public transport in the area, it would be advisable to check public transport timetables, if you do not have your own transport, before applying for this position.

If you are successful in being offered this role, you will be required to carry out pre-employment checks including: 5 year address history, 3 year employment history, a criminal record check and be medically fit to work.
