An exciting opportunity has arisen in Poole for a Software Engineer to join our multinational conglomerate client who are leading suppliers of domestic heating. This is a full time temporary role paying £46 per hour Ltd, Monday to Friday, 08:15 - 16:45 (12:30 on Fridays).

An experienced software engineer is sought to be join a multi-disciplined engineering team in Poole contributing to the definition, design, development and support of production software including data collection and supporting systems. The successful applicant will have proven software engineering experience and be able to work independently or as part of a project team with minimal supervision. Possible travel to other sites

Principal Responsibilities

  • Able to communicate with customers/stakeholders as the lead on major software projects, to discuss requirements and functionality and resolve issues.
  • Development of software application modules using disciplined software development processes.
  • Interfacing with hardware for data collection and control
  • Aiding in the preparation of status updates for projects.
  • Coordinate with the rest of the development team and other cross-discipline teams to ensure the successful delivery of software projects.
  • Provide regular reports to the Head of department, escalating issues and risks in a timely manner
  • Research new and emerging technologies when appropriate and report on findings. Provide advice and leadership on development best practices to the existing team.
  • Manage software source control and documentation, support disaster recovery plans.
  • Manage project budgets

Skills/Qualifications

  • Educated to degree level in an engineering discipline (or equivalent experience)
  • 3+ years of working with a software team.
  • System design including hardware definition and interfacing
  • Working in a manufacturing environment
  • Experience with device communication and third party protocols
  • Developing Automatic test systems & production data capture.
  • Experience in database design and administration
  • Microsoft C# and .NET experience developing windows applications (WPF)
  • Interfacing to third party systems (COM ports and protocols, Industrial data buses etc)
  • Strong demonstrable understanding of fundamental database concepts.
  • Understanding of MS SQL Server and T-SQL.
  • Experience of source control system (preferably Team foundation Server).
  • Competent in the use of Visual Studio.
  • Data analysis (Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office / Minitab, knowledge of statistical process control in a manufacturing environment & six sigma methodologies).
  • Problem solving skills/ Strong communicator.
  • Results focused with a strong desire to succeed (project delivery to schedule with high quality).
