Engineering Maintenance Manager required to join a leading supplier of fresh food brands to major retailers and consumers who pride themselves on excellent nationwide service.

Health & Safety overview:

  • Every individual has a responsibility for Health & Safety. The jobholder must ensure that his/her actions do not put him/her or others at risk and cooperates fully with the company in respect to Health & Safety.
  • Always ensure that the on-site "clean-as-you-go" procedure is followed.
  • Ensure that fire-exits and walkways are kept clear. Ensure that fire doors are closed. Never block access to fire extinguishers or doors.
  • Report all accidents and near-misses to the relevant line manager immediately. Ensure that any damage to plant or machinery is reported to the relevant line manager immediately.
  • Ensure that all tools and other equipment used on repairs are accounted for at all times.
  • Always obey signs and wear protective clothing where required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:The following is a list of core responsibilities to be completed by the jobholder. Other duties may be assigned.

  • You will have abroad knowledge of engineering practices and facilities management including HVAC, refrigeration, effluent and site services
  • Be hands on and able to work methodically on your own or as part of a small team.
  • You will be electrically & mechanically competent with minimum qualifications in engineering to NVQ L3, City & Guilds or higher.
  • Able to manage a small team of engineers and contractors in a fast pace food production environment.You must be a strong leader who is able to motivate the engineering team to deliver full engineering service and support to the production and site facilities where required.
  • Follow the company Health & Safety guidelines as outlined above
  • Own and manage the site engineering budget
  • Respond promptly to breakdowns and give feedback to production regarding expected downtime and planned corrective action
  • Lead, manage and develop the engineering team including performance management, development and appraisal
  • Develop schedules for regular preventative maintenance and other equipment servicing
  • Work closely with the engineering team and the production team to develop a dynamic and positive attitude to the challenges of a busy production department
  • Focus on the key performance indicators (KPIs) identified by the Packing Centre Manager and work towards achieving and surpassing agreed targets
  • Give advice and provide recommendations to the production team with regard to improvements to processes, in order to maximise machine productivity and minimise down-time
  • Ensure that company standards are adhered to, while working within the company's disciplinary procedures. Conduct performance/disciplinary counselling where appropriate
  • Once trained to do so, conduct risk assessments for the department
  • The site is committed to being "audit-ready" at all times. Therefore it is imperative that site hygiene, health & safety and document control are in line with customer specifications at all times

The demands of the business may change in line with customer requirements and changes may be made to the above guidelines. The jobholder should be flexible to the changing demands of the business.

Training and Education:

The jobholder may be expected to complete training in the following areas. The requirements will be dependent on the jobholder's previous experience, knowledge, qualifications and on the demands of the specific activities:

  • Health & Safety
  • Technical and process training appropriate to the role
  • Manual handling
  • Manual/Electric pallet truck
  • HACCP
  • Safe systems of work
  • Food handling/hygiene
  • Effective communication skills
