Health, Safety & Environmental Manager required to join an innovative and exciting company. As HSE Manager, you will be responsible for day-to-management and the effective promotion of good HSE practice across the business. You will have a proven record in managing HSE matters in a manufacturing or chemical environment but will also have experience of other HSE related issues, such as CDM Regs, laboratory facilities, multiple site locations, etc.

You will be responsible for advising on all HSE matters and for ensuring compliance with appropriate legislative requirements as well as internal protocols. You will maintain your knowledge and expertise in the HSE area and ensure that your own training and development needs are met in order that you can continue to provide professional and knowledgeable support to the business.

You will provide training, review and author documentation, advise and provide guidance, investigate and research and act as competent person.

The successful candidate will have a BSc (ideally in Occupational Health, Safety Management or Environmental Science) or other equivalent technical qualifications, with at least three years of experience in a chemical or engineering manufacturing company.



Key Requirements:

  • Develop an effective HSE training program
  • Implement and develop HSE policies in accordance with the latest legislation
  • Educate and develop HSE champions through the organisation
  • Investigate workplace incidents
  • Chair the HSE committee
  • Develop HSE KPI through business units
  • Own the service and maintenance database (building, hardware, lifting equipment, etc.)
  • Maintain the service and calibration records of safety equipment and bespoke R&D equipment to be safe to use
  • Develop and update Permit to Work and RAMS
  • Understand key regulations (PUWER, LOLER, WAHR, etc.)
  • Manage the suppliers of waste management services
  • Liaise with customers for advice on safe use of the biocidal applications
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing practices will be a plus


Candidate profile:

We are looking for a candidate with a science or engineering background, ideally Occupational Health, Safety Management, Environmental Science or Engineering, with the ability to learn and collaborate across teams. Must have a critical and methodical mindset and be a good communicator.



Qualifications and Experience Required:

  • BSc in Occupational Health, Safety Management, Environmental Science or Engineering (preferred) or other equivalent technical qualifications
  • Three years of experience in a chemical of engineering manufacturing company in a similar role
  • Effective and engaging training and presentation skills
  • Ability to communicate at all levels
  • Strong sense of role ownership

  • Salary £30,000 to £35,000
  • Annual bonus of 5% salary
  • Contributory, salary sacrifice, pension scheme up to 5% of salary
