General Duties Assistant

A new and exciting opportunity has arisen for a General Duties Site Assistant in Sheffield, Blackburn Meadows.

Due to continued growth our client, a leading energy company, is looking for a General Duties Assistant to join their existing team based at Blackburn Meadows power station. In this role you'll also benefit from annual leave entitlement of 28 days a year (pro rata) for the first 12 weeks, and 34 days per annum thereafter (including bank holidays).

As a General Duties Assistant (GDA) you will be required to work 2x 12 hour days followed by 2x 12 hour nights then 6 days off. Annual salary: £23,857 (+ OOH Shift Allowance of £5,597)

The post holder's key activities are:

  • Possess a full understanding of the fuel delivery procedures / systems of the installed plant.
  • Operation of the fuel delivery systems in a safe, efficient and professional manner.
  • Ensure that the plant is operated in accordance with, and compliant with statutory legislation and company Management and Operational Instructions.
  • Operation of the fuel delivery systems in a safe, efficient and professional manner.
  • Utilise knowledge and experience to take actions as required to deal with safety, environmental and plant emergencies or abnormal conditions.
  • Monitor the Security systems installed on the site and liaise directly with the site control person, Central Security Control Centre and emergency services as appropriate during site emergency conditions.
  • Look after the day to day security of the site including liaising with all site visitors and contractors.
  • Look after site deliveries and collections relating to the operation of the plant.
  • First line maintenance within competency range of individual.
  • Maintain and enhance safety and housekeeping within areas of control and actively promote good safety management and housekeeping within the team.
  • Communications: - Updating and reporting via operational shift logs, and other relevant databases and verbal communications to internal / external parties as appropriate.
  • Ensure Safety of employees and contractors.
  • Ensure Safety systems are compliant with statutory and company requirements;
  • Ensure that Environmental systems are compliant with statutory and company requirements;
  • Identification, investigation and rectification of defects and incidents and near misses;
  • Continuous improvement and best practice to reduce controllable costs;

The post holder will have:

  • The ability to undertake all operational duties in respect to fuel deliveries and security of the site.
  • Qualifications to ONC/NVQ level 3 in a related engineering discipline (electrical, mechanical, C&I or process) or 3-5 years post apprentice experience within a similar role and industry;
  • A minimum of 6 - 12 months experience of operating within current safety, environmental and operational policies, frameworks and statutory legislation relevant to the role.
  • A Working knowledge of current policies and procedures which affect the management of the Site
  • Qualifications and associated authorisations to perform the appropriate site safety and security roles.
  • A robust understanding / awareness of environmental, commercial and legal issues and the impact on the plant operating conditions.
  • An excellent working knowledge of facility's relevant process and systems.
  • IT literacy for use of database and weighbridge systems

Strong interpersonal skills to enable effective working relationships with the ability to effectively communicate with all stakeholders;
