Reactor Fitter - Mechanical - Plymouth - £Competitive

Manpower our please to be working with our client based at Devonport Dockyard to find Reactor Fitters - Mechanical. This is for an initial 6-month contract but likely to become ongoing for the right person.

About the role

In the role of Reactor Fitter, you will be working on reactor systems and equipment. You will provide hands on engineering support within a multi-skilled team environment carrying out work on reactor systems and equipment as part of the refits and maintenance of marine vessels.

Your required duties will be:

  • Excellent Health & Safety awareness with a pro-active approach to maintaining a safe working environment.
  • You will be required to work within reactor compartments
  • Working within controlled radiation environment using specialist PPE.
  • Able to undertake the removal, installation, repair and maintenance of reactor systems and equipment
  • Ability to overhaul and install a variety of mechanical equipment associated with submarine reactor systems which could include fluid systems (water, steam H.P/LP air, hydraulics), lighting, air conditioning, valves, pipework, pumps, motors, etc.
  • Set to work where applicable using approved test procedures and test equipment.
  • Carry out system and equipment functional tests and surveys.
  • Work to engineering drawings, technical specifications and procedures.
  • Competent in the use of general workshop machinery and hand tools related to the role.

About the Candidate

To be successful in the role of Reactor Fitter you will need to of achieved a Level 3 apprenticeship in a mechanical discipline or Armed Forces PO/CPO/NCO with a mechanical specialisation. Manpower are particularly interested in candidates who have relevant nuclear experience either directly with submarine reactor systems and equipment or within the nuclear power generation industry.
