Are you an excellent technical Accountant? Would you like to support our academic mission, helping to balance academic and financial considerations and be an integral member of the Faculty finance team? Do you have the skills to operate as a finance business partner and contribute to the development and implementation of strategy?
As Finance Manager of Leeds University Business School, you will make a significant contribution to the strategic agenda at Faculty level, supporting key financial strategies and a financial management framework for financial control and operational improvement. Reporting to the Head of Finance, leading and motivating a team of four you will be keen to develop and deliver team objectives.
You will lead on month end and year end processes for the Faculty and play a pivotal role in providing support to colleagues across the Faculty in meeting University audit requirements and compliance in relation to purchasing, expenses and key travel transactions and for ensuring correct tax treatment for sales contracts and international working.
You will also provide financial support to the Centre for Professional and Executive Education and the University's Confucius Institute for Business.
With demonstrable skills and experience in financial accounting and operations management with the energy and enthusiasm for active finance business partnering, you will be a qualified CCAB accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, CIPFA) or have equivalent experience with, ideally, a background in the Higher Education sectors.
You will have experience of financial and accounting operations and financial information reporting using a large-scale accounting system. You will possess a proven ability to interpret, present and communicate complex financial information and policies to colleagues of all disciplines in an effective and proactive manner.
What does the role entail?
As a Finance Manager your main duties will include:
Working with the Head of Finance in the development of financial strategy and a financial management framework, aligned with academic and operational objectives, to enable strategic decision making;
Providing a professional, customer focussed, cost effective accounting service to the Faculty; and promote a shared commitment to working together to develop a strong continuous improvement service ethos.
Informing, guiding and advising Faculty management and staff in the conduct of financial affairs in accordance with the University's financial regulations;
Providing financial monitoring and cost control support for the Faulty in pursuit of financial sustainability and the achievement of VfM;
Improving the financial systems, processes and controls in order to drive process improvement and enhance the management of financial risks of the Faculty;
Financially assessing and evaluating current and prospective taught programmes of study and knowledge transfer activity;
Promote financial viability of the Executive Education Unit; including
 Financial Reporting and analysis
 Planning and forecasting
 Contract support and cost review, and
 Budget monitoring.
Attending Senior Management Team meetings and operational group meetings across the Faculty;
Developing the communication of financial policies and procedures throughout the Faculty, including the provision of appropriate training for non-financial managers and staff;
Promote compliance with Purchasing processes and procedures, including Key Travel and e-expenses
Support the process of investment and project appraisal within the Faculty ensuring rigorous examination of the underlying assumptions included in the academic business case and finances.

You will report to Karen Hall, Head of Finance, Faculty of Business.
What will you bring to the role?
As a Finance Manager, you will have:
A professional accounting qualification (CIMA, ACCA, ICAEW, CIPFA or equivalent) or equivalent work experience;
Significant experience of producing, forecasting and monitoring financial plans and delivering against them;
Experience of managing, motivating and developing staff; including undertaking staff reviews, probation and ensuring excellent service delivery
Ability to interpret and produce complex management information;
Highly proficient in the use of IT, including Microsoft Office (Excel and Word);
Experience of using complex financial systems;
Excellent verbal and written communication skills with an ability to present and communicate complex financial information and policy;
Excellent interpersonal and influencing skills with an ability to build and manage relationships both internally and externally and at all levels of an organisation;
