Medical Lab Assistant - Immediate start - Exeter

Manpower has an exciting opportunity to work for a busy medical laboratory within the NHS in Exeter as a Medical Laboratory Assistant. As the successful candidate you will be working at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital based just outside of the city centre, the RD&E boasts excellent transport links via public transport and can also be easily accessed via the park and ride if you live outside of the city centre. You will be joining a dedicated team of scientific professionals who will be quick to make you feel welcome. This is a very busy department with constantly changing priorities and workloads so if you have a passion for science or biology and enjoy never having 2 days the same this is the opportunity for you.

About the role

You will be working alongside Consultant Pathologists, Dissection Practitioners and Senor Staff within the laboratory to ensure the smooth and accurate reception and data collection of specimens. You will be responsible for collection and retrieval of slides and reports for MDT meetings. On a daily basis you will be expected to sort, match, label and distribute specimens ensuring that you are prioritising urgent work. This role does involve working with biohazardous, corrosive and flammable chemicals so previous experience of working within a laboratory environment is highly desirable.

About the candidate

To be considered for this role you will have a minimum of a 'A Level' qualification in a scientific subject and have previously worked in a laboratory environment. You will have exceptional attention to detail skills and be able to maintain high levels of concentration and procession over long periods of time. You ideally will have experience in handling high risk pathological specimens and in using histological techniques. Due to the nature of this role you will need to have all of your standard NHS injections up to date and be willing to complete a DBS check and possible training.
