The job will involve working as an usher in the busy environment of Manchester County Court. You will deal with a wide range of people including judges so good communication skills and memory and the ability to work under pressure are essential. You are required to set up the courts in the morning then sign in all court users accurately. You will have to assist the judge in court and swear in witnesses.

The usher role is much more than just a reception job and as part of your duties you will provide front line customer service to both internal and external customers and required to be smartly dressed.

You will be speaking to judges on the phone and face to face, and also speaking to barristers, solicitors and members of the public some of whom may be agitated/emotional, liaising with them, judiciary, magistrates, court clerks and legal advisers and interpreters.

You will call cases on, escort parties in and out of court, operate recording equipment and video link. You will keep notes on attendances start and finish times and will be regularly required to look after 3 or 4 Judges and courtrooms on most days.

You will deal with vulnerable witnesses and prisoners and be required to show sensitivity and flexibility in the types of courts and judiciary you are able to work with.

You may need to cover late sitting of courts.

This job involves a lot of running around every day, being able to retain a lot of information in your head and staying on your toes and in control.

You will set up court rooms with the appropriate amount of glasses and jugs of water depending on the type of case and number of parties. After courts you will clear the courts and wash the glasses and jugs. You may be required to carry papers and books for the Judges, photocopy for judiciary and parties and when not required on court floors will assist the main office by posting out court orders.
