Hires and Loans Assistant

Faculty of Arts, Design and Media

Location: Parkside Building, P101

We are looking for an undergraduate or postgraduate student from ADM to join our Hires and Loans team working in Parkside 101. The facility is a busy and vital element of the faculty and course delivery to students.

Hires and Loans manages and maintains the Audio-Visual equipment for a number of production based courses, including Film, Television, Radio and Photography. You will be working alongside the department's technicians to support lessons, workshops and assessments.

As the role will be focused on the service side of issuing equipment, ensuring all kit is handed out and received in a professional and accurate manner, experience in customer service is required. Experience with a range of equipment used by film, TV, radio and photography is also essential.

You will be required to provide basic technical support to fellow students using the resource, ensure the space is used in a safe way and help the technical team with general housekeeping duties. This is a great opportunity to further develop your own technical understanding of a wide variety of Audio visual equipment, whilst developing your interpersonal skills in a professional working environment.

Hours of Work:

Monday - Friday 0800 - 1200 or 1400 - 1830 daily

Approximately 3-4 shifts (up to 18 hours) per week

Further details:

Main duties:

  • Assist with daily collections and returns of equipment ensuring both are done so within the facility's terms and conditions
  • Work on own initiative to prepare bookings for collection
  • Advise students and staff of facility information such as opening times and booking procedures
  • Assist users of the facility in the use of the equipment, referring to the team where necessary
  • Provide excellent customer service at the point of collection and return
