Manpower is currently recruiting for a Production Support Engineer to work within my clients Service and Repair team. Reporting to the Production Team Leader, the Production Support Engineer is responsible for ensuring optimal OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness), through effective preventative maintenance and delivering rapid response to equipment availability in the incidence of equipment down time in line with the expectations of manufacturing operations. Additionally, providing engineering support to the Production team and ensuring continuous improvement.

Duties and responsibilities

Production

  • Assist the Production Team Leader as required to ensure safe, efficient and high-quality production output; supporting the achievement of department objectives.
  • Provide a weekly review with the Production team to understand and provide solutions to the latest issues, whilst improving assembly capacity and product knowledge.
  • Support continuous improvement and strive to develop and improve existing facilities equipment and processes in a cost-effective manner.
  • Ensure improvements are introduced following Production problems to prevent reoccurrence.
  • Participate in ongoing facilities, equipment and process enhancements to improve manufacturability and performance improvements.
  • Provide engineering technical input to resolve Production issues.
  • Cover for Production Technicians and Operatives as required, e.g. to build product.

Real-Time Investigation and Resolution of Production Problems That Affect Output

  • Ensure improvements are introduced following Production problems to prevent reoccurrence.
  • Keep the Production Team Leader informed of any equipment issues that might affect past and current product deliveries, escalate to the Operations Manager as required.
  • Responsible for Production improvements, product improvement/design/replacement.

Managing Equipment

  • Monitor and measure operational equipment and systems to ensure optimal OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness).
  • Maintain Production equipment (including calibration tables, ovens etc). Take corrective action to reduce equipment down time in line with expectations of Operations, involving external suppliers and escalating where necessary.
  • Ensure that preventative maintenance schedules for the required equipment are set and followed.
  • Ensure that test systems maintenance procedures are followed in line with work instructions and logbooks and records are up to date.

Calibration

  • Arrange all external calibration of tools and equipment which are to be used by Production.
  • Support adherence to ISO9001 and ISO17025 standard requirements.

Health and Safety

  • When using hazardous materials, ensure that a risk assessment has been carried out and observe any precautions demanded or recommended by it. When using materials and equipment which is not specifically labelled as hazardous, handle them with care and be aware of any potential dangers they may present.
  • Keep the workplace in such clean and tidy condition as is commensurate with its function, to promote efficient and safe conduct of the company's business.

Required Expertise

Ideally the successful candidate will have a Degree or equivalent (HND) in Electrical or Mechanical engineering but they will also consider candidates who are qualified by experience.

  • Able to track and monitor equipment utilisation and reliability to identify preventative maintenance measures to improve reliability and up-time. Candidates will understand measuring equipment operation and ensuring optimal overall equipment effectiveness. Desirable: The candidate has previously worked in a fast-paced manufacturing environment, supporting and repairing equipment and systems.
  • Candidates will be familiar with making improvements to equipment / systems and services to improve utilisation and operational/production productivity (through-put).
  • Computer literate; with experience of using Microsoft windows software to complete work done reports and monitor equipment usage (i.e. word, excel etc). Understanding of machine control software for fault finding and controlling production equipment.
  • The candidate has the ability to interpret from drawings, specifications, work instructions and create new ones if required.
  • Detailed knowledge of Health and Safety Legislation, Safe Systems of Work and contingency planning.
  • Degree / HNC / HND and/or experience in Electrical / mechanical engineering.
  • Previous experience of supporting / maintaining electro/mechanical equipment is required.
  • Able to see and fix (prevent) problems before they escalate. Wanting to make things better (continuous improvement) rather than wait for failures to react to.
  • Happy to perform a wide range of tasks. Can adapt to changing priorities at short notice. Able to work well under pressure (in the case of equipment downtime).

In return my client offers a competitive starting salary of £28,000 - £30,000 and in addition to the basic salary there is a standard performance related bonus of up to 8% paid in December and a discretionary June profit-share bonus. Workplace pensions are being offered in line with our auto enrolment legal obligations. Holiday entitlement is 27 days plus bank holidays. Hours of work will be 08:00 - 16:15 Monday to Thursday, 08:00 - 15;00 on Friday.
