As a Digital Communications Manager, your main duties will include:

  • Managing the University's major social media accounts, helping devise and prioritise their editorial content;
  • Leading and developing forward plans for content, aligned to broader communications priorities, including devising and running a content calendar for social channels and help influence content across channels;
  • Determining the most effective use of digital channels, platforms or communities for specific, targeted audiences and supporting campaign work from the Marketing, Media Relations, Alumni and International teams;
  • Horizon scanning and anticipating risks, providing expert advice to help develop the University's response to sensitive and potentially damaging issues, ensuring careful handling to protect the image and reputation of the organisation;
  • Working effectively with colleagues, including the Digital Marketing Team, to ensure organic and paid for activities are aligned and self-reinforcing and that social activity is effectively aligned with broader communications priorities;
  • Building and managing long-term relationships with online communities and influencers, and supporting others to do so, to ensure appropriate representation of the University and its activities in the digital space;
  • Producing, editing and - where necessary - commissioning content for core social media channels, including copy, photography, graphics and video. This will include working with specialists and managing suppliers;
  • Developing and implementing University-wide guidance on effective and appropriate use of social media, including a University-wide social media policy;
  • Working with the University's staff development team to shape social media training for colleagues, including informing training for a University network of online experts;
  • Staying abreast of developments in social media, providing digital intelligence and applying it to ensure effective development of Leeds' digital channels;
  • Line management and leadership of the Social Media and Web Analyst, Communications Assistant and Videographer;
  • Deputising for the Head of Digital Communications when necessary, assuming leadership responsibility on such occasions.

Out of hours working will be required as part of the communications team's out of hours cover.
