MOBILE VEHICLE TECHNICIAN

LONDON (PARK ROYAL, WOOLWICH, RAINHAM AND SURROUNDING AREAS)

£32,000 - £33,000 PER ANNUM

4 ON 4 OFF SHIFT PATTERNS - 06:00 AM - 18:00 PM AND 18:00 PM - 06:00 AM ROATTIONAL SHIFTS

UP TO £568 PER MONTH IN PERFORMANCE BONUSES

About the Role

As a Mobile Technician you will provide a reliable, efficient and courteous service to our customer; the Metropolitan Police Service. To service and repair motor vehicles, either at vehicle workshops or at Police Stations throughout London, in a safe and efficient manner using such skills and knowledge as is required and offering excellent customer service at the same time, building affective relationships.

  • Service, maintain and repair vehicles components and accessories, in line with company and/or manufacturer's instructions, including removal and refitting in a safe, proper and economical manner using equipment provided
  • Diagnose faults and test vehicles utilising equipment available and using recognised test procedures and techniques. Including road testing where deemed necessary
  • Work in an efficient and productive manner, achieving the targets set out and agreed with Workshop Supervisors or Manager

  • Operate a 'Fix First Time' way of working ensuring quality of work is at the utmost standard and meets/exceeds any inspection carried out against it
  • To observe, recognise and report on defects and/or symptoms of impending failure. Identification of recharge costs advising the MMU Controller and correct completion of paperwork
  • To order parts necessary, ensuring that no parts are fitted to vehicles other than those required to complete the work
  • To be responsible for correct part/s stocking, stock control of all parts on the MMU van and be responsible for updating stock where necessary
  • Order from the parts department all necessary replacement parts, ensuring that no parts are fitted to vehicles other than those required to complete the work
  • To ensure at all times that all equipment and tools which are supplied by the company including the MMU van are kept in a clean, safe, professional condition and to report any shortages or damaged/faulty equipment to the MMU Controller
  • Ensure the correct completion of all job related documentation (job cards, parts orders, logbooks etc.) including job write-ups
  • To keep working area / vehicle in a clean and safe condition, dispose of displaced material, fluids, packaging etc. into receptacles provided and dispose of the same as instructed by the company

  • To report to the Line Manager / MMU controller of any specialist tooling requirements
  • To carry out any duties deemed reasonable over and above standard duties including deputising in other roles
  • To attend and participate in such training courses as deemed necessary

What do I need to do the role?

  • High levels of efficiency
  • Good diagnostic skills
  • Understanding and application of health & safety requirements, including lone working
  • Ability to read / comprehend technical instructions
  • Good communication skills (written and oral)
  • Working under pressure to tight deadlines
  • Work unsupervised and able to achieve high standards
  • Diagnostic equipment and fault diagnostic methods
  • Ancillary equipment e.g. vehicle mounted cranes/tail lifts
  • Minimum 2 years qualified as a motor vehicle technician.
  • Good level of industry knowledge / awareness
  • Mainstream commercial dealership experience
  • City & Guilds 1 & 2 in Motor Vehicle Studies or equivalent NVQ levels 2 & 3
  • Able to work with others and a team player
  • Proactive and flexible outlook
  • Full UK Driving Licence with no previous disqualifications from driving (DR, CD, DD, IN OR TT99 endorsements will not be accepted)
