About the Department

SSE Enterprise Contracting is one of the UK's largest Mechanical and Electrical (M+E) contractors with a product/service portfolio ranging from M+E LV, HV, Instrumentation, Street Lighting, Facilities Management through to Combined Heat and Power solutions.

The Role

Due to growth, we have an opportunity for an Mechanical Estimator to join the SSE Contracting division. Your role is to prepare cost plans and submit accurate estimates for design and build project bids which secure profitable contract work.

You will meet with clients to discuss their design requirements and prepare estimates of net costs or contract tender bids. You will analyse technical specifications and designs for contracts of varying size and undertake option appraisals to identify and recommend solutions.

The role also involves obtaining materials/resource availability and pricing structures from potential suppliers/sub-contractors and arranges sub-contractor enquiry documents to ensure accuracy and competitiveness of estimate and accommodation of supply chain critical path.

What do I need?

The ideal candidate will have sound electrical/mechanical/site specific knowledge combined with a completed a craft apprenticeship (or recognised equivalent) and have excellent maths and IT skills and great commercial acumen.

To be considered for the role, you will have a strong understanding of technical drawings and have the ability to" take off" quantities from drawings or bill of quantities and possess demonstrable experience of preparation of Schedule of Rates.

You can demonstrate knowledge of contractual requirements, terms and conditions and appreciate the importance of client and data confidentiality. A proven track record of assessing the levels of risk on projects is required.

Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal) and a keen eye for accuracy and attention to detail are an absolute for this role. As an driven individual, you will use your own initiative and have fantastic negotiating skills which drive you to work to deadlines.
