About the role

Babcock Energy and Marine Division employees highly skilled people and are the UK's leading naval support business. Our experience draws on an unmatched range of engineering and technical skills in providing through-life services and deep maintenance to the Royal Navy's major warships and nuclear-powered submarines, in addition to operating a wide range of strategic shore-based naval support facilities.

The Division is expanding rapidly with complex, high-profile defence projects including Type 31 Frigate Design & Build Programme and the Successor Programme. Also, with ongoing additional framework agreements, infrastructure projects, export markets and research & development projects. Therefore, we are seeking individuals who would like to join us at Rosyth to support the electrical design objectives initiatives across these critical projects.

As an Electrical Designer, you will prepare and produce drawings throughout the design lifecycle and in line with recognised ISO standards to the required; time, cost and quality requirements. You will liaise with colleagues and stakeholders during design lifecycle to ensure coordination and functionality of design, including contribution to design reviews. In addition, develop innovative design solutions and solutions to manufacturing and installation issues by assisting in the resolution of production and technical queries.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Prepare, produce and maintain project documentation as required by the design lifecycle, produce and update 'as built' /datum pack documentation.
  • Interface with customers and supply chain on design issues and assist with procurement specifications.
  • Assist senior designers in a range of activities including, production of estimates, maintenance and improvement in standard and quality of outputs, production and test organisations with the compilation of test forms and procedures.
  • Fulfil Design Lead responsibilities as assigned for single discipline low risk projects.

What do I need to do the role?

The role requires a good understanding of engineering and design practices as relevant to a design discipline including appropriate CAD skills, written and verbal communications skills, and an understanding of Risk Management. We would like you to have experience generating a wide range of common or complex design situations and problems or detail for assemblies, components or systems. Also, the ability to apply knowledge to develop design solutions to a wide range of common or complex design situations & problems under limited technical supervision.

You will hold an ONC/ HND in Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience. It would be beneficial if you have experience working on UK naval marine shipbuilding projects and experience building health and safety into design tasks.

What else do I need to know?

You will work 37 hours per week Mon-Fri with flexible working and must be able to achieve the appropriate level of Security Clearance.
