About the role

Here at Babcock International we're looking for a Civils / Construction focused Project Manager to join us at HMNB Devonport, one of the largest naval bases in Western Europe. We're a key strategic partner to our customers; the MOD and the Royal Navy. We ensure that the UK Royal Navy goes to sea safely by supporting them in Devonport and around the world, delivering complex ship and submarine sustainment programmes and applying our core strengths of technology and expertise to sustain critical and complex assets to help maintain national security.

The Nuclear Facility Infrastructure department delivers complex upgrades and modifications to facility assets and infrastructure in support of the Submarine Maintenance Programme. As a Project Manager you'll be responsible for the safe and timely provision of in-service nuclear facilities and infrastructure projects required to support the Programme. The projects are diverse and encompass mechanical, electrical and civil elements across the full Engineering, Procurement and Construction Management (EPCM) lifecycle.

An established Project Manager with a strong engineering background you'll be responsible for the management of the Facilities Project and coordination of CAPEX Project Teams. You'll ensure that all work conforms to the current 'Control of Work' requirements and complies with Site Licence/Authorisation Conditions. You'll also act as the primary interface between Engineering Services and the Customer to ensure business cases and funding lines are aligned to requirements and translated into a Project, to be delivered to Time, Cost and Quality.

What do I need to do the role?

You'll hold a minimum of an HNC or equivalent in a relevant Engineering / Construction discipline together with Project Management experience ideally working within a heavily regulated industry e.g. Nuclear or similar.

We would also like you to have some or all of the following:

  • Supply Chain Management experience of Sub-Contractors' work packages (Design, Procurement and Construction etc.)
  • Experience in Safety Case, Risk Management (desirable)
  • Strong interpersonal and communications skills (both verbal and written) and the ability to interface effectively with internal and external stakeholders and the customer.

What else do I need to know?

The successful candidate will need to satisfy Ministry of Defence security requirements. This may require you to hold or be eligible/capable of achieving 'Security Check' (SC) clearance.
