About the role:

Here at Babcock Marine Clyde we are currently recruiting for an experienced Engineering Operations professional to join us at HMNB Clyde as a functional leader for our Fleet Engineering teams.

This is a key senior operational role within our Fleet Operations Directorate where we are looking for someone to lead and manage our Fleet Engineering Department to meet safety, quality, cost, delivery, people and improvement targets for Group, Business Unit, Function and Department.

Fleet Engineering is a sizeable function within our business at HMNB Clyde and covers both Industrial and Non-Industrial functions. This "Head of" role reports into Director level with a multi-disciplinary team reporting into this role (c9 direct reports) with c300 FTE's within the Fleet Engineering teams.

Some key results areas for this role are as follows -

We require someone to agree business, function and department objectives and targets in conjunction with senior management, and once set be responsible for managing these through to completion. This will also include ensuring that adequate resources are available and being fully utilised to ensure ability to complete work packages in accordance with the safety and contractual delivery requirements of the programme.

A core part of this role will be the delivery of process, technical, safety and business improvement using Continuous Improvement techniques to accelerate delivery in key business areas, including the implementation and adoption of best practice solutions (systems, technology and people).

Due to the nature of the HMNB Clyde site this role will have ownership of ensuring people resource is adequately qualified and experienced to carry their individuals roles as well as ensuring the programme is resourced with key qualified personnel in line with any regulatory or safety legislation.

This Head of Fleet Engineering role will also have budgetary management responsibilities, including reviewing and maximising cost revenue where appropriate on current portfolio, developing key relationships with Customer to identify new revenue opportunities or to assist in maximising revenue and reducing spend within the Function.

At all times the Head of Fleet Engineering will champion and ensure all work is carried out to the highest standard and in line with regulatory and legislative standards.

What do I need to do the role?

The successful candidate will demonstrate proven experience in a similar senior operations role, ideally gained within a high integrity / high hazard sector - e.g. Nuclear, Marine, Rail, Aerospace, Oil & Gas etc.

We require someone with proven change management experience due to this role having ownership of change delivery within Fleet Engineering.

A background gained within Engineering Production or Maintenance and Repair would be advantageous in this role.

Experience of Business Process (HR, Finance, Commercial), Programme Management, Process Improvement and Leadership in a scalable business.

What else do I need to know?

The post is based at HMNB Clyde just north of Helensburgh in the West of Scotland. We are well placed for commuter links to Glasgow and the wider region, with easy access for car and public transport.

Due to the nature of the work the successful applicant must be a UK National with ability to gain and maintain UK SC level security clearance.
