About the role
Here at Babcock Maritime Mission Systems were looking to recruit a Principal Engineer to support a new Submarine Combat System Enterprise-wide Joint Portfolio Office (JPO).

Babcock Maritime Mission Systems within Naval Nuclear supports the Royal Navy's in-service combat and strategic systems, trusted to deliver and sustain the fight function to ensure mission ready ships and submarines.

As Principal Engineer you'll directly contribute to providing greater visibility of programming and design issues across the Combat Systems (CS) Portfolio, enabling better decision-making across the enterprise and improving the effectiveness and efficiency of CS delivery across all Submarine classes and through life.

Your main focus will be to represent Babcock and work with MoD and industry partners to seek efficiencies and further opportunities for improvement across the enterprise. You'll also be identifying dependencies and challenges in the CS in-service programme and to make recommendations to overcome them, thus improving the effectiveness across the whole enterprise to assure delivery of CS capability to all programmes.

This is an exciting opportunity for a suitably qualified and experienced Systems Engineerto assume a leading role in Babcock's contribution to the JPO.


What do I need to do the role?
You'll be Degree qualified in a relevant engineering discipline or hold an HND with significant demonstrable relevant experience. Membership of a relevant professional engineering body is desirable.

We would also like you to have the following:

  • Experience in successfully managing projects in a regulated industry with multiple stakeholders
  • Sufficient experience in both reviewing and writing complex engineering reports.
  • A deep knowledge of Submarine Combat Systems and equipment integration and support.
  • Experience of working with, or as part of, Defence industry / MoD / Royal Navy authorities and sound knowledge of their organisational structure, working practices and policies.

Lastly, you'll be a highly motivated, proactive individual who has excellent interpersonal and communications skills, and the ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with submarine project customers and sustainment project stakeholders.


What else do I need to know?

  • The role is based in the Bristol area with travel to travel to Plymouth, Scotland, Barrow and Southern England, as required.
  • The role will be in an environment regulated by ITAR / Trade Control legislation and involve working with controlled goods, technology and/or services. This will require you to meet enhanced security and regular screening checks.
  • You will need to satisfy Ministry of Defence security requirements. You must be a sole UK national and hold or be capable of achieving 'Security Check' (SC) clearance.
